Have we heard any news on this cat’s visa? Hell or even is Mastercard
My understanding is that he wasn't going to get a US visa until Monday at the earliest, and that they flat out didn't know when he'd get a Canadian visa. You'd think that Canadian authorities would have an interest in helping out NHL clubs, but history shows that they don't really GAF. It'll happen when it happens. Given that Rod prioritizes rest over practice at this stage, I'm pretty sure the team will fly out right after lunch on Tuesday so that's a business day and a half. We'll see but I'm not holding my breath. The team are now making noises about assigning him to Chicago for a game if he can't get the paperwork for the Canada trip.

Thanks. Had a busy weekend as after all these months, I’m fully starting to feel like myself again. Haven’t had time to keep up with it. Usually I just do my own research instead of taking the was easy out and asking someone else to do the legwork for me lol

Demidov got his Canadian visa in 48ish hours. But he’s playing for a Canadian team. He’ll need a US visa too, the Habs have the Caps in the first round.

I blame elon
It's always been like this. The Canadian government looks after their NHL teams' needs FAR more than the US State Dept ever has. And the Canadians straight up slow walk stuff for US based teams. Although I'm sure there's plenty of blame to go around otherwise.

I know it was just a joke. As a federal employee nervous about his job I’m taking as many jabs as I can at the man. But no more politics sorry

So, the Wolves have games Friday and Saturday. Do you try and get Nikishin into that Saturday game or just let him start practicing with the big club? He'll be jet-lagged and has been hanging around Istanbul doing whatever for basically a week. I'd figure they just bring him to Raleigh and let him start working with the guys in practice Saturday (and maybe Sunday depending on the playoff schedule). Not sure what good cramming in an AHL game under these circumstances really does in the big picture.

And before somebody asks, no ... he can't play playoff games for Chicago. He doesn't meet the AHL's roster requirements

Yeah, get him to Raleigh, Billy and his boys can get him integrated into the swing of things with the workouts and then he gets on the ice with the team upon their return from Ottawa! One game in Chicago would almost seem like adding additional wrinkles of travel and jet lag on the man.

That's what I think, too. He doesn't need to play a single game in the AHL.

None of this will matter for his contract situation...this first season is burned regardless of whether or not he actually plays a game for the Canes or Wolves.

I don't see the point of trying to get Nikishin into a regular season game in Chicago. At this stage he is much better served just joining up with the Canes when they get back from Ottawa and practicing with the team. And no, I don't think him not having played a single game for the Canes or Wolves would impact where he sits on our depth chart for the playoffs. He's on it for sure, possibly right behind Scott Morrow as the #7 (maybe not for long depending on how he looks in practice). Ty Smith? Riley Stillman? Yeah, you are not going to see them in a playoff game for the Canes over Nikishin if it comes to that.

Oh, I'm pretty sure he's ahead of Morrow too. I like the kid, but while he's growing at the NHL level, he's nowhere near ready for a playoff environment. Nikishin on the other hand, just finished up playing in professional playoff games for the third year in a row. He's a much better bet not to barf on his skates.

He was also the Captain of SKA.

And there was zero chance of Canada approving him in time to play against the Habs!
