Smith Returns To Orchard Park: Schouman Signs

The Bills today announced that the team has claimed wide receiver Jonathan Smith. Smith played in two games for the New England Patriots in 2006, but did not record a reception.

Smith spent his first two NFL seasons with the Buffalo Bills. He played in 16 games making one start. He averaged 13.2 yards per punt return and posted a one punt return touchdown in 2004. He also posted eight receptions for 77 yards and one touchdown in his career. A product of Georgia Tech, Smith was originally drafted by the Bills in the seventh round (214th overall) of the 2004 NFL Draft.

7th round draft selection (222nd overall) Derek Schouman also signed with the Bills today. Schouman was the team’s first of two seventh round selections. In accordance with team policy terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The Boise State tight end was a four-year starter and finished with 78 receptions for 1,009 yards and 11 touchdowns for his career. He was named first team All-WAC in 2006.

Schouman also played a key role in the upset victory over No. 7 Oklahoma in the Fiesta Bowl. He caught a touchdown pass from wide receiver Vinny Perretta on a 4th-and-2 play in overtime to cut the lead to one. The play set up the winning two-point conversion to preserve the only undefeated season in Division I-A football last year. Schouman is the third of the Bills’ seven draft picks to sign with the team.

The Bills also released two undrafted rookie free agents – LB Larry Edwards and WR Johnny Quinn.

Six Draft Picks Signed, One To Go

The Bills have announced another signing today. Second Round pick Paul Posluszny signed a contract. Terms of the deal were not released.

Posluszny was the 34th overall selection. The Penn State linebacker started 37 out of 44 games with the Nitnany Lions and finished with a career record 372 tackles.

Earlier today, Buffalo's fourth round draft selection (111th overall) Dwayne Wright came to terms. The particulars were not disclosed.

The Fresno State running back played in 28 career games despite missing the majority of 2004 season and all of 2005 after a knee injury. Wright became the third ranked rusher in school history with 2,683 yards on 501 carries and 16 touchdowns. Wright earned second-team All-Western Athletic Conference accolades in 2006 after rushing for 1,462 yards and 11 touchdowns. He also set a school record when he rushed for 295 yards vs. Louisiana Tech in 2006.

The Bills' first round pick, Cal Running Back Marshawn Lynch, is the only 2007 draft pick that has not yet come to terms.

The Bills also announced the release of rookie wide receiver Aaron Brown.

Re: Buffalo Bills Thread -- Training Camp and Preseason

Bills Trade Darwin Walker To Chicago exchange for an undisclosed pick in the 2008 NFL Draft.

Re: Buffalo Bills Thread -- Training Camp and Preseason

I thought he was going back to philly that's what the Buffalo News said.

Re: Buffalo Bills Thread -- Training Camp and Preseason

If he didn't report to Buffalo by Aug 5th he would have went back to Philly and Buffalo would have gotten a 6th round pick instead.

He goes to Chicago and we get a 5th rounder from Chi.
