Fantasy Baseball Rules Changes & Deadlines

I'll bitch slap Jonas next time I see him. Don't you know Boys of Summer Montana? The problem is they are being greedy and using every slot possible for prospects, even MLB spots. You can realistically use 35 spots for prospects, (30 MiLB and 5 reserve spots) which should be plenty. Maybe I can change the roster eligibilities so reserve spots can only be used for MLBers? Just ridiculous that we have to keep doing this. I'm almost at the point where I'd rather just give a warning and if it happens again, bring out the boot.

The whole thing is pretty upsetting. It's hard enough running these leagues, without having to be the "Roster Police" on top of it. Plus, Jonas knows better.

That's the thing. We're all paying money for these leagues and it's a shame that everyone can't just play it honest. And that includes not being negligent.

I believe Boys of Summer discovered our thread through a Google search when we were looking for a replacement manager. He may not have seen our previous discussion on this topic, has been pretty active all year with trades etc. It's possible he doesn't know the exact rule, or it could be apathy. I'll send him an email later tonight.

We will definitely have to issue warnings at the very least, and come up with some kind of punishment for future issues.

Personally I don't mind if teams want to keep prospects in reserve spots, but "Active" should be pretty ****ing self-explanatory, if you ask me.

didn't Montana do essentially the same thing last season? were any actions taken there? i can't recall but for the sake of consistency it should be handled similarly. not sure how you can "punish" Jonas for tanking when he owns none of his own picks, you will only be punishing whoever it is he traded them to.

Yes dumb dumb....that's why we're saying a solution needs to be found. If it never happened, there wouldn't be a problem.

That's why apathy should be treated the same way as those that intentionally tank, because the outcome is ultimately the same.

Thankfully last season the karma gods dealt with it, and gave me the third pick instead of first.....but I'm not sure we can simply rely on that every year.

So the managers who artificially get a worse pick as a result should be the ones screwed, in your opinion?......cause punishing multiple teams is better than actually dealing with those at fault? Hahah.

The thing that is most infuriating is that Jonas tried this stunt in the hockey league already, leading to a rule where players in active spots needed to be active, and have played at least one game (to be placed in an active slot during the off season). So it can't be apathy to place Shirley in an active slot in the first ****ing place. In fact, I don't know what the **** could possibly have led to that decision.

He does own someone else's 1st round pick. That could conceivably be the last pick of the round.

Maybe his punishment should be to have to commish the league for a while, and have to deal with garbage like this.

Was just looking back at the past few weeks for Jonas. It's not like he put those guys in the lineup and just left them there, he has been shifting guys around. Also in his defense, it looks like he did have Wil Myers on the IR, and inserted him back in the lineup because he is supposed to be returning soon. So it's not quite as bad as it looked earlier. Still, pretty much every week he's had injured/minors players on the active roster. Josmil Pinto has been in the minors since June, but active at C all along. Also, for a few weeks a blank spot was apparently out there manning RF. I'm going to assume that led to quite a few extra base hits.

I'm not quite so sure we need to dole out a penalty, but there definitely has to be a warning issued. Can we just all agree to put an active MLB player in all active slots and be done with it? Is that so wrong? It's not fair to try and juggle 37 minor league players around the roster. If 1 or 2 teams can do it, why not all 18 teams that aren't in contention? I'd bet money a number of those guys wouldn't even make a list of Top 500 prospects. They do not all "need" to be owned. If by chance they do, there's reserve spots, and there's trades. Plus it just isn't cool as it's affecting the integrity of the league. Jonas, or in this case the team that owns Jonas' pick this year, is going to pick higher than teams who paid an entry fee, and are playing by the rules, but may legitimately have scored less points.

As I have stated, I really don't care if a team has a couple of minor leaguers in reserve spots. But let's act like we are operating an actual baseball team. The Houston Astros can't announce that Asher Wojciechowski is tonight's starting pitcher. Then have the crowd just sit there for 3 hours watching an empty mound, because Asher is not even in the city or the league.

Also, I was in contact with Boys of Summer, he's out of the country at the moment but will fix his lineup on the weekend.

Yes

Is that so wrong?

No

We really should decide on (aka: argue a bunch and let you decide) on a format for punishment for stuff like this. Something like 2-3 freebies (mistakes happen and a weeks worth of points from a slot or two isn't changing the draft order) and then we start taking picks, working from the player's worst pick and working towards his better ones, with retroactive punishment (as in, it gets caught 3 weeks into it? There's your 2 freebie weeks and your 5th round pick, gone)

Despite being in 6th, I'm in the same boat as a lot of these guys, floating prospects in my reserve roster slots. If I can manage to roster a full team, I don't see why anyone else couldn't. I work 90+ hour weeks when I'm out west and manage to get on to fantrax 1-2 times a week to check my team.

I agree with everything Mindz said, but my one issue with simply punishing the offender with loss of late picks....is that (a) it's a trade anyone would happily make to move up X slots in the draft, and (b) the real teams being punished now, would continue to be the ones really punished, as they're the ones who are playing on the up and up, yet seeing their picks artificially lowered by better teams dropping below them in the standings.

For instance whether Jonas is punished here or not, (hypothetically with a late round pick using Mindz example).....you'd still have 4-5 teams or whatever who are playing legitimately, yet are punished worse than anyone in the process by having their picks devalued solely because they weren't willing to cheat/ignore their team.

I think we should be trying to find a solution that involves those clubs not getting screwed when someone else breaks the rules.

Perhaps blending something like what I suggested with point equalization for the purposes of draft lottery slotting?

Take every team that doesn't finish in the money and equalize them to X starts, X GP, etc (basically using FPG instead of FPoints to determine draft lottery slotting).

Punish them on the one end for ****ing about, and take away the incentive on the other.

I'm back, and my roster is fixed. My bad fellas. For the record I wasn't trying to tank, but I was trying to hoard minor leaguers. I get it, and will ensure to have major leaguers in going forward.
