Final Week Before Trade Deadline

Canes won't be announcing any trades today until after the 3PM game as they have no healthy extras and Charlotte is in Manitoba (where they were crushed 7-2 last might by the worst team in the AHL).

Teams have played with less than a full compliment before. Heck, wasn't Cammalleri pulled from the bench in mid-game when the Habs moved him? The Rangers don't play until tomorrow, so its not like they'll need him today. There are no other teams playing today that have been mentioned in Staal trade talks. Then again, if I have a deal in place for a solid return, there's no way I would let him play and potentially injure himself. He can go to the arena, do a nice video thing for the fans, intermission interview, whatever. He can even take the pre-game skate, or a ceremonial face-off, but there's no way I'd let him on the ice during a game.

Anyone else getting nervous that the Canes are going to blow a big opportunity here? The positive feelings and excitement this organization has built up over the course of the year will be damaged if at 3:01 PM tomorrow this team looks the same. I am getting nervous that nothing has happened yet given the number of assets the Canes should be trying to move.

EDIT - SWEET STAAL IS MOVED!!!!

So going back to that question on AHL playoff eligibility...TSN 1050 is talking about exactly what andyt mentioned....making sure that players on AHL rosters today so that they are eligible for the AHL playoffs, and the 4 callup limit after 3PM today. Frankly I'm completely confused now what the rules really are.

If this is the case I would expect DiGuiseppi at a minimum to have a paper transaction today and be sent down to Charlotte today and then be recalled after 3PM. I would be reluctant to do the same with Slavin and Pesce who I think really should shut it down as first year pros once the NHL season is over. Same with Hanifin.

The rest of the callups required to fill the roster can be done on an emergency basis (which I don't believe is subject to that 4 callup limit) since the Canes can't ice a full roster at the moment due to injury. But at this point I really don't have any idea what the rules are...I thought we had found that they completely got rid of Clear day a few years ago and you could basically put whoever you wanted on the AHL playoffs roster without having to do all of this nonsense. I'm assuming that the 'pundits' have it right though and we were mistaken?
