Galchenyuk traded for Domi

We could have a team full of playmakers, it makes no difference if you have nobody who can score. For all of his flaws, Galchenyuk was our second best goal scorer who was coming off a terrible year with a terrible shooting percentage.
Goal scorers also have trouble scoring without being setup. One major issues this team has is actually creating quality scoring chances.

We're lacking everything.

Didn’t most advanced stats since MB has been here say we generate scoring chnaces but just have mediocre shooting %?

We have a long list of wingers that would rather score than carry the puck and make plays. Gallagher, Lehkonen , Carr, Shaw, Deslauriers, Pacioretty, Byron. Only Scherbak and Hudon are more pass first.

We have mediocre shooting % because we take a lot of low quality shots. The whole team shooting % went down under Julien. It's not the shooters, it's the system.

When you finish in the basement of the standings enough times and draft alot in the top ten you get good young players, that’s not the hard part in a rebuild.

It’s putting it all together to create a team that is the hard part, it’s identifying needs and addressing them properly.

To say Chayka has done a good job is like saying that a lotterry winner has done a good job managing his finances.

Chayka has to start getting positive results to say he has done a good job, just like the Sabres.

Chayka's been the GM for 2 years, here's the moves he's made.

Jason Demers for Jamie McGinn
Goligoski for a 5th
Took on the dead Datsyuk cap space to move up for Chychrun when he slid in the draft
Took on the Bolland contract (which is paid by insurance) to get Crouse for a 3rd
DeAngelo for a 2nd
Stepan & Raanta for DeAngelo & 1st (Lias Andersson)
3rd & 5th for expiring Stone
1st, 2nd, 4th for expiring Hanzal
Cousins for a ham sandwich
Hjalmarsson for Dauphin, Murphy
Then got Dauphin back for the flops Duclair and Clendening

Like I said, he's done a lot of good work.

For sure it seemed like we outshot the other team quite a bit for such a poor team. Scoring chance stats are a bit subjective though. We know this team took a lot of low percentage shots.

How many of those guys will be in our top six

I count Gallagher and Max....those are the only two I would call goal scorers.

Byron can score but if you have him in your top six there’s a problem.

Re: Galchenyuk traded

They'll patiently let him work through his struggles there. Chayka has already come out and said that they see him as a centre.

And that’s the difference between Arizona and MTL

They have that luxury

Re: Galchenyuk traded

I didnt initially realize he was RFA. I corrected myself later and asked how much he will get. Friedman thinks 6 years @ 5. But I'm wondering if we can convince him to take a bridge deal.
Only black men and Russians get brudge deals rammed up their ass by Bergevin

Still doesn’t change the reasoning...to say he has done a good job when his team has been atrocious since he took over doesn’t make sense to me.

He was given a terrible team, he's made the roster significantly less terrible looking.

He inherited a shitty team where the top 6/top 4/Starter were almost all mediocre veterans (Doan, Hanzal, Tanguay, Vermette, Boedker, Stone, Smith) or very meh young players (Duclair, Murphy, Connauton, Martinook, Rieder)

He's brought in the higher quality veterans I listed above, and added kids like Keller and Chychrun to what he already had in house.

Feel free to look at what he inherited vs what he's going to be putting out there next season. It's a massive difference that will yield a pretty significant improvement shortly.

Re: Galchenyuk traded

I read he liked his polyvalence, which is a bit different.

I'm assuming you mean versatility? I had to google translate that shit.

I think we're working off of the same statement of Chayka's tbh

Coyotes GM John Chayka acknowledges Alex Galchenyuk's lure is at center but the Coyotes like his versatility as well.

They'll patiently try to develop him as a C, it makes too much sense not to. They're not winning shit this season, Stepan is only signed for 2 more years and a Strome-AG duo at 1-2 centre for the next 10 years has to be appealing to them if they can fix AG.
