Game 57 - Kraken @ Leafs - Kraken Some Skulls Tonight

Wonder if handedness was the culprit. Some guys just can't do it.

Didn't see enough of it together for me to draw good conclusions....but I think there's a lot of overlap in the Rielly-Sandin tool boxes and a lot of overlap in their deficiencies. Neither is really a great shot suppressor. Lilly is steady on the defensive side of the puck (especially for 22) so can cover for Rielly some, but is a better puck mover than anyone on the blueline other than Rielly or Sandin, so can engage when there is room to as well.

Also, Lilly has been under the radar great. Especially in the tougher matchups since Holl got demoted/Muzz hurt.

Last 10 games 60.1 CF% and 65.4 xGF%. I know he has been up and down the lineup, but some of that is against toughs. Meanwhile Ras's #s have taken a hit over that span with the increased workload.
I may be in the minority but I think Timmy > Ras right now

I've sort of always thought that since seeing them both play a few AHL games. I said it a while ago.

Lilly is a monster truck. Sandy is great too, but Lilly has the makeup to be kinda dominant at both ends.

I think Lilly is better suited to play up the blueline right now. Sandin is a new and improved version of Dermott at the moment, the small god of destroying shit competition.

Want to see what Sandin looks like after another off season or two though. The IQ is sky high, but he needs another step of footspeed imo. He's never going to be big (he plays nastier than his 12 yr old Dutch girl's frame would suggest) but his skating is good just good. The biggest reason Rielly turned into Rielly is that he's an elite skater. Want to see if he can add a step before I put Lilly ahead of him going forward though.

Just isn't room in the top 4 on the left side. I know Ras looked worse than Timmy with Rielly but that was with a guy that was a horrible complement to his game AND he played RD. Unfair spot to put him in. Something like Sandin-Brodin could work quite well though.

Or maybe even... A less sheltered Ras-Liljegren!

Had a 85% xGF with Mo against the Jackets (Mo had a 80%)

Only a 58.5% against Vancouver though....

Can't draw too many conclusions from small samples, but his audition with Rielly is going way better than Ras' did.
What was the usage like in that Canucks game though. Does Reillys pair normally get like 2nd unit type matchups? Cause 58.5 is still decent unless it was butter soft usage.

I was being a bit fascetious with the "only" bit. 58.5% xGF is a strong game in most cases.

I don't have a true usage stat (like QoC) in front of me, but defensive zone starts was split between Rielly-Lilly and Dermott-Russian Guy, with Brodie-Holl taking about 70% of our total Dzone starts.

Something I would like would be is if we do use Muzzin and Holl together as a shut down pair is the system changing and not having the d pinch as much as we do usually. They’re not the fastest and I’d the point is to shutdown then we shouldn’t be pushing the tempo with our slow players.

And will. He'll grow into his physical game in other areas, just as he's a bit of a bulldozer along the boards.
