Games Played/Claims Limit

Nope, you are right. I can't draft guys to play more games. But, I have traded forwards for defencemen (example) & knew I was getting the short end of the stick. But, I was flush at D and weak at F and needed to make the move to consistently hit the GP limit at the F. There are a few things I don't do with a 70GP limit overall, as opposed to having things split out between F/D/G.
Well there are still 12F, 6D and 2G positions. So having too many of one or the other is still an issue. But you do have a point to a degree.

I think this could jump start interest and maybe trading.

Speaking of which... any reason that we shouldn't allow cap hit retention in trades? We can change individual team salary caps so there's no problem there. I think we'd want to make the retention for the current season only.
Hey, if you guys are cool with policing it. I was only against it previously because I thought it would be a nightmare to manage and police.

If we were to do the cap retention thing we'd definitely have to put some rules in place. Stuff like not being allowed to add a high cap player then trade him a week later and retain cap hit.

Maybe you can't retain cap on a player that you added as a FA within the past month.

I don't think it would be tough. Say if you and I make a trade where I retain $1M... I'd just raise your limit $1M and lower mine $1M. The toughest part would be monitoring the player whose salary was affected. If you drop or trade said player... your "bonus" goes bye bye too.

So I noticed that there were people streaming players. Which is fine in normal fantasy leagues but it's not what we were looking for in this league. Managing the cap and building the best team was the goal... not necessarily just maximizing your games played. I have no interest in pointing fingers or blaming anyone. Trying to win is not a bad thing. I just think we need to rein things in a bit.

I have started by setting the claim limit to 5 instead of 10.

I think we also need to drop the games played limits. Right now it's set at 80 total games. I think we need to drop it to 70. A few of us are in another league with a 70 game limit and it seems to work a lot better.

Thoughts?
not sure why its a problem now guys where doing this all last year me included. As for changing any settings mid-season, im not sure why we would even consider it. (the 5 max per week wouldnt really effect to much) I think it should be the owners right, and dropping limits to max games is foolish mid-season. people have made deals to maximize games each week. All last season the top teams (deckie, mindz and millers) did a great job planning rosters for the week to maximize games and where top teams in regular season. having guys to drop down in and out of minors helps but if we drop the number of games per week those guys arent as valuable. as for cap retention im OK with that and would even volunteer to help track it. as for changing max number of games im dead against that as teams minors are constructed to stream players up and down.

i think we should do something like nhl does with buy out where each team can only make 2 cap retention trades per season

There's always one dickhead who has to make it difficult.
Bahahahahahahaha, holy shit. I spit out my coffee when I read that. Thanks for the Saturday laugh.

Honestly, I feel the same way. I'm just trying to be a bit more diplomatic about it. I feel that these changes have a major effect on things and should not be implemented mid-season.

I spoke with Rob, he feels the same way. He's working, but will post his feelings later.

But, as with everyone here, I take part in these things because I love them and have fun. I'm not going to take my ball and go home if my opinion varies from that of the others and gets overruled.

From what I see so far, though, we have myself, Bull, Rob & Deckie who aren't in love with the in season changes.

My apologies to any of those people if I misunderstood something and put words in their mouth.

I guess we can keep it as is with apathy running rampant so that the few who enjoy streaming players can continue to do so.

I won't bother trying to improve the league. See you all in the off season.

like i said the 5 waiver moves should solve the problem not sure why we have to lower game limits and create advantages where they didn't exist before. off season is the time for this. people where streaming last year and it wasn't an issue, Im just wondering whats changed. #1 rule in fantasy sports you dont change the rules halfway through the season and yes im being that dick not because i have a team that can win. but because if i built my roster over last few years to win by building minors to stream players and max games i wouldn't be happy. someone that maxes games every week even if those etra 10 games are only at .6 thats 6 points. a lot of wins and losses are closer then that. its not really a small change your requesting.

I didn't really notice the problem last year. I obviously wasn't paying enough attention... which is part of the problem here... apathy.

With all the anti-gaming talk from the other leagues I guess I just assumed it wouldn't be an issue... I thought the cap would somehow take care of a lot of the gaming issues...or I was just being ignorant.

Anyway stream away... and if it brings you a title, congrats. In the off season we'll try to close the loopholes.

I've been on the wrong side of a rule change that should have been implemented mid season and wasn't which cost me a title in our dynasty league. Titles shouldnt be decided by rule mistakes that are against the spirit and intent of the league and are going to be fixed anyway. As long as it's caught sufficiently early enough during the season to not effect the competitive balance of the league, there shouldn't be an issue with changing it mid season. Give all owners 3 to 4 weeks warning that it's changing and get it over with if it's the right way to run the league

i get where you are coming from but if you look at the top teams their minors are built to stream and max games to change the max games completely screws them. rather then be rewarded for doing the leg work. as for guys streaming off free agency would that not create more activity. if weeks are being decided by someone streaming from free agency then yes a 5 pick up per week would fix that but to drop max games changes team make up. i know at the draft i drafted guys that i could stream from minors and feel that the owners that have those minors shouldn't be held at a disadvantage. we all knew the rules going into the season the ones that picked up all the up and comers good on them the ones that didn't best of luck. I'm OK with max free agent limit. but to drop the games limit makes zero sense to me. if someone can come up with valid reason to do that id love to hear it

You realize that you're speaking 100% selfishly right? You're against mid season rule changes because they're wrong.... except it's okay to drop the claims limit to 5 because that will help you. You can stream from minors and this will prevent people from streaming FA players.

I couldn't agree with you more about streaming. It sucks and we should definitely fix it. I think that moving the 10 moves per week to 5 moves per week helps to fix that. I would have no problem moving forward with this right now.

But, changing the GP limit right now has a distinctly negative effect on teams run by Deckie, Miller, Assassins & myself. We're all in the running for the title and have put a huge precedent on minors stocked with NHL ready or current NHL guys. I don't think we should take it the forehead mid-season with where we are in the standings. We've built teams to the best of our abilities within the confines of the current rule structure.

I also understand that my opinions should be unbiased and for the betterment of the league. Tough one for me with where I am in the standings and how I've constructed my roster.

I would be for a mid season change to 5 waiver claims per week.

I will support cap retention implementation if people would like to move forward with it this season.

I am heavily against changes to GP limits in season. To me, it has too much impact overall and will negatively impact too many teams. I would be more than open to discuss to change in the offseason, when everyone is on a more level playing field and has time to properly devise a strategy & construct their roster.

I currently have Nylander, Hanifin, Guentzel, Dumoulin, Honka, Lindell, Puljujarvi, Cousins, Crouse, Shore, Koekkoek, Matheson, Miller, & Tryamkin all minor league eligible and playing in the NHL....I'd be effected as much as anyone in this league by the change. It's a better rule though, so I support it. I'll adapt.

In my experience in fantasty, you shore up rules before they're being exploited, not after. Especially once it's been made public knowledge like this.

Honestly, bro. And, I mean this with all due respect because I've seen how you operate. You're a straight forward, honest, respectable dude.

But, if you look at your roster, you could make the argument that the only reason this was brought up is due to the strength of your overall roster and complete lack of depth for NHL ready prospects to help you hit the GP limits.

Do I think that is why this came up? Absolutely not. But, it would favour a team like yours to make this type of change. It's hard to not have a bit of a selfish perspective. I'm really, really trying keep the best of the league in mind first and the best for me in mind 2nd.

Again, I'm not insinuating anything or trying to come at you. I'm just trying to convey my perspective on why these decisions are so difficult overall.

im not built to stream from minors and couldn't care if people stream off waiver wire. this whole discussion started with a streaming issue off the waiver wire if that's the real issue then sure address it. i just dont see how we have to make up to 3 rule changes mid season. im agaisnt making any i wonder if someone has won a week because of streaming off waiver wire or just done a good job at maximizing roster through miniors. my miniors suck and dont have a horse in this race but if i did this would be my opinion so im not sure how im trying to gain an advantage for my team. i dont think ive maxed once this year. like ive said before if waiver streaming is real issue then move it to 5 per week, but dropping games makes zero sense

You know what, Mindz' team would be hugely impacted. His minors system is as strong as anyone else's.

I'm fine with whatever. If everyone is on board for changing the GP limit, you have my support.

May want to reach out to Axl. I haven't seen him weigh in and the impact would be substantial to him.
