GDT #11: 2026/10/20 - His Beautiful Boy Returns

just a weird thing where everyone pretended we traded some young kid for a vet, when the players are 2yrs apart in age.

Also the new guy is way better, hence Chayka adding +++ to Knies even tho Waddell didn’t have a ton of leverage

The trade never happens if Marchenko didn’t want out

I'm all for fans being emotional, but I don't get being this attached to this particular player. I am fully open to the idea that this makes me the problem. I just don't think he was here long enough or had enough success here to be this choked up.
I mean, part of this is just an exaggerated schtick that is being overblown by most of the other posters here. Yes, I loved the player, who I projected as being great from the moment we drafted him, and would love to have him back on the team somehow. I didn't pull a Biz and say I'm not a Leafs fan anymore. I post stuff about Knies, just as I do about Cowan, McKenna, and others. It just happened to be that this was our first game against him, and most humans have feelings and sports have a sentimental element, because why else are we watching a bunch of Americans and Swedes and Russians playing for Toronto and cheering them on?

You're always the one who gets his back up about this being a place to post and discuss, but you're on the front lines of this Knies stuff. I just assume it's also an exaggerated bit, but heck, maybe not....

Hey relax I just said I don't understand the sentiment stuff for this particular player from Leafs fans. He was a leaf during the most disappointing part of the Matthews era so I feel nothing for him on an emotional level.

Who cares about the era? The player was a fun, exciting, unique homegrown talent who was a 65 point player at age 23.

How often do we get one of those?

You are allowed to feel attached to him, I get attached to players too. I'm simply sharing my opinion about how I will remember his time here (I don't remember much honestly).

that's most of it. like Jerry said, we're rooting for laundry

you're actually the more evolved person here, because you still love Knies even after he was forced to wear a different shirt

I'm more of a Maccelli guy personally. Pretty sure he also cried during the Canadian anthem but no one cared.

I was sincerely hoping that Lettieri could fill that void for you but everybody was quick to point out his uselessness after a few shifts

He's soooooooo bad.

But seriously most here love knies, hell Zeke said it himself! I realize that this is a me thing. I'm simply surprised that so many people fell for him. He was good, not great and played on the team during a time that I'm going to try to forget for the rest of my life.

That last part is not his fault, but that's a prerequisite for me if you're not an elite player. Gotta have team success or idc about you.

like i legit love knies.

but you always trade for the best player in the deal.
Yup, this. It's one of those things about sports that kind of sucks. Knies seems like a great dude, was a lot of fun to watch, I certainly wasn't cheerleading a Knies trade like cold-hearted old Presto, but the trade does make a lot of sense too. You have to give up something good to get something good, and we just have to hope that Marchenko was worth it.
