Back in the day (late 90') I used to watch games (hated the sound of Joe Bowens voice). I had a surround sound system and used to unplug the center channel speaker to hear the game sounds, but the play by play was on the center channel speaker and thus not heard.
I would imagine it depends on your audio output settings. If you have the center channel as the dialogue speaker then yeah, I don't think it will work in THX or Dolby Digital mode. It may.
