It's unfair to lump Matty in with Marner. Matty has been inconsistent, but is still playing more or less at his level. It's that he has no help from his wingman who is supposed to be setting up all the plays. So, if nothing is doing with Marner, Matty has to try to bust through the zone on his own on every single rush. He seems hesitant to go to Knies, almost like he has to give it to Marner or he won't sleep well at night. If Matty would pass off to Knies or dump it in more for Knies to retrieve it, it might relieve the burden on Marner and open things up for him. But Marner isn't even showing flashes of his creative brilliance that defines his game. He's looking totally overmatched by every team we play against. His point total is completely misleading.
