GDT #20: Raps @ Celtics 7pm, Leafs @ Ducks 10pm, Going for 1st Place Doubleheader

For the record, I'm not saying Sparks is great or even good or even that he will be good. I just think it's silly to jump to any conclusions after 4 games.

Also of note is that 11 of those came after people were complaining about how shit sparks looked. 2 of those HD chances were stopped by his defenders and another was a post where he was cleanly beaten.

This game looks better on the stat sheet than it did on the ice for him.

Because he's a young goalie who has a really nice record in the minors, has worked hard to improve his game, and I think guys like that should be given a chance to prove themselves before people start jumping all over him. It seems every time he's scored on the 'he stinks' posts flow forth.
 
Sparky was crazy lucky tonight. I’m not betting on this guy beating a good team without it.

Tavares with that backcheck. Shit I loved that even more than the goal moments later. Amazing play.
 
I also don't disagree that he looks skittish at times and needs to improve his rebound control. Those things can be improved. I see a guy adjusting to NHL shooters and playing very little. We'll see if he can hack it in time.
 
Between the cheap Marleau goal and all the missed empty nets and posts by the Ducks, we really deserved to lose this one 4-0 or 5-0.
 
very impressive first 20 games, all things considered. hard to imagine better than winning 14 of your first 20 and racking up a +19 with 10 games combined from Matthews/Willy.

Poor Gross and Nylanders, this holdout simply hasn't produced the pressure they were hoping for.
 
In regards to Sparks...he looks scared to me, but the main thing is, regardless of the level of AHL play, he didn't look like this last year. He did not look out of place, flopping around, he controlled rebounds...so what the hell?

Even if he will never be any good why should he look so different?
 
Great finish to an otherwise yawner of a game.

Sir Garret Sparks had some shining moments - but he did look tentative, and definitely did not venture very far from his crease.

Matthews is a part time player, he just simply doesn't show up for half of the 50 games he plays every season. But wow, those 25 GREAT games have blinded everyone.

Nylander, is hilarious, he literally skates faster than anyone but only around the boards. Does he even know what open ice is?


I could tell you the best news ever, that Dubas has dropped his contract bid down to 1.5 million, but I would be lying. But that would be hilarious though, if it occurred. Willy would never talk to his dad again.

Am I the only one who noticed the Leafs were always better when Sundin was out of the lineup.
