GDT #4 - AUG 7, 8pm, SN - Not like this

I love you. But one thing I'll correct: Columbus and Toronto were tied in the regular season. These are two pretty good, not great but not bad, hockey teams. Our expectations that Toronto SHOULD be better doesn't really change that. The reality is this isn't some David vs Goliath series. It's going about how I expected it with small bounces, luck and mediocre goaltending deciding games 1 and 3. Game 2 was all Leafs though and overall (cumulatively) Leafs have the edge in play by a decent amount. But that doesn't always mean they'll get the results in this beautiful but maddening sport.
Crowd or not these games ARE being played in TO. Toronto should have the advantage over the BJ. Like many have said, they can't take their foot off the gas. You would think they would have learned that by now considering the losses they've taken in previous years.

They need the kids to be good on the back-end, and they need to turn Dermott and one of the wingers (Kap, Jo, etc) into something good.
Watching the games as an outsider I am wondering why the Leafs aren't doing what Columbus is doing. With the speed up and down your lineup they should play tighter defensively and wait on the turnovers (which will come) and transition with speed. I mean they've done so on occasion but hardly all game long in any of the games.

Presto's 'luck thing' is what has always been called "bounces" ... nothing new.
But that won't be the narrative if they lose the series. It should. Along with Andersen being trash and the Leafs d being mediocre and incapable of dealing with the loss of Muzzin.. But luck/bounces are playing an important role. As they do in every single playoff series.

Mirtle already has an article up about how this is all the same shit over again. I can't even bring myself to read it. This series, aside from Fred (who he unsurprisingly gives a free pass), is nothing like any of the recent playoff series the Leafs have been in. They've been fucked hard by unfavourable bounces against a team they could have easily swept otherwise.

More than anything else I want a nerd to succeed in hockey. Bunch of "told you so"ers out there right now bashing Dubas. Today seems to be "bash the Kadri trade" day. I'm annoyed by this.

Or that old cliche of defense wins cups is actually a thing.

For the last decade it largely hasn't applied, not as any sort of trend. It is merely one of the ways that a cat can be skinned, but hardly the only way.
