GDT #50: 2024/02/10 - Baby Bro

He deserves to be suspended for it really but it is kind of entertaining seeing a whole bunch of non-Leaf fans pretend that Morgan Rielly (Morgan Rielly!?) has some sort of history of being a dirty player after years of calling him soft.

Canes fans are all "piece of shit!! not shocking to see a scumbag in toronto!"

I'll guess 5 or 6 games.

sure doesn't help a Leaf defence that already struggles to move the puck, and in the bigger picture to help the team play better than a borderline playoff squad (whose mediocre GM will have his feet held to the fire in trade talks).

in some small way though, this was satisfying to watch....I'm straining to see any sign of pride or hating to lose in this group year after year. this was a dumb thing to do by Rielly, no question. but it comes out of frustration, I'm sure, from letting 2 points go against the 28th best team in the league. You should be pissed off if that happens. I hope the rest of them are too.
 
I will say that if a leaf did the slapshot taunting thing i would say he deserves some retribution; it's a bitch move and a response is warranted. Maybe a head shot is crossing the line but thankfully Mo's was clean shoulder to shoulder action.
 
If the other core guys had that extra gear of caring, we’d maybe have won by now. But this shit feels way too little too late for me. This coming while we’ve only got 17 regulation wins is kinda whatever when it suddenly is looking like we’re a bubble team.

Bertuzzi has been such a dud. Add Klingberg and Reaves to that, and fucking yikes. The Cunt brought a lot more to the table than these three guys combined. Keeping the coach and downgrading the roster, and extending Willy at the peak peak peak, and zero decent trades (shit we got robbed in a Lafferty deal even), all add up to a very bad start for the tree lover.

If you don't want your opponent to treat you like a bitch don't play like bitches.

This is the same argument I make in football when the losing team gets bent out of shape about the winning team running up the score. It's not little league. There's no mercy rule. You want to stop your opponent from showing you up? Make some fucking plays.

Reilly and his teammates had 60 minutes to prove they didn't deserve to be treated like bitches. They failed. So whatever happened on the empty netter is what they deserved.

Considering Jason Spezza somehow managed to get suspended for six games (which I believe was the longest suspension of that season) while a member of the Leafs, I honestly wouldn’t be surprised at all if Rielly got that much.
