GDT: Canes @ Blue Jackets 1/10 7:00

Too much passing when the canes are coming down the ice. Geez, carry it in further, quit the cute short passes.

40 minutes of sucktitude there. Bellemore and Harrison look like AHLers out there. The Bluejackets are swarming, and giving the Canes ZERO room to breathe. The Canes complete lack of ANY kind of physicality, is showing tonight.

Canes were due for a loss so this isn't crushing. They just have to respond well and not let this be the start of the typical losing streak that has usually followed up the winning streaks this year.

And that's the game. Hang this one on Bellemore. Back to Charlotte with him!

Oh right, hang the entire loss on one defenceman, who, while he is the least experienced has come a long way since he's been here. He's become a solid player and will only improve. Sure throw him under the bus or on it back to Charlotte. That's utter nonsense and belongs in the same category as the crap about trading Hainsey. Who th' hell would any of you replace them with? Weber? Or maybe komisarek?

The entire team shouldered that loss. Yeah, some good play and outshot the BJ's (how many/few were real chances?) but mostly looked like a bunch of amateurs. Helter-skelter! BJ's looked like they had 8-10 skaters out there and the Canes couldn't handle the puck pressure. I will single out Lindholm and Gerbe as the two Canes who looked the best and tried the hardest.

Although I'd like to see Harrison close the gap on the puck carrier instead of simply sliding backwards accomplishing nothing.

Here I will agree with you but it's not just Harrison, too often none of our D-men do that, not pressing the puck nor hitting the carrier. Too many other ills to list!

Team loss. Bluejackets were all over us from the git-go and just flat-out imposed their will through the first period and..well, heck the entire game.

And once you give a defense-first team like the Bluejackets a two-goal lead, especially with a hot and tight goaltender, it's pretty much over. They like 2-1 games, and Bobovrosky earned that shutout.

Back end on the road caught up with them on this one. Good individual games all around, but team fail on imposing their will on the other team. Got ambushed big time on that front, shift after shift.

"Bob" looked tuff in goal, indeed he earned that goose egg. My concerns with Bellemore arent with potential as much as the fact the dude looks worn down a bit. To be expected given his first long run.

Having said that, on the replay this morning it really jumped out to me that on 2 of the goals, the forwards didnt do a good job and left a huge hole between the D and themselves. Oh well, on to the Flames.

I should have use a smiley, that was "tongue-in-cheek". As I'm sure the Facebook crowd was hanging this one on Khudobin as well. Their usual response to a bad game is "send him to Charlotte", no matter if the player is waiver exempt or not.

Granted, I thought Bellemore looked absolutely garbage last night. He and Harrison were exposed by a really fast and aggressive BlueJackets team, and made them both look like amateurs. If by some miracle, Rutherford could find a way to replace those two with more able bodies, I think the blueline would be in darned great shape. I'd rather have Murphy than Harrison lately. Harrison has had solid stretches, and played decent at times. But lately, I don't like his game.

I agree about it looking like the BJs had 7 or 8 players on the ice all night. The Canes were constantly outnumbered and unable to get any momentum. This is another glaring example of how soft the Canes are, and how there is no one on this team capable or willing to play physical hockey.

I've heard several people say they thought the Canes played a great game but ran into a hot goaltender. No doubt Bobrovski was hot, but I didn't see much in the Canes game to be happy about. A lot of response is to the number of shots the Canes had. But were they quality shots, or did they hit Bob in the logo? Honestly, I felt like the scorekeepers were counting all of the shots that the BJs blocked before they even got to Bob. There were very few quality scoring chances that I saw. And on those, Bob made great saves. The rest were simple, "stand there and let it hit you" saves. Dwyer and Harrison aren't exactly snipers. And Semin had a world class whiff after having about 3 seconds to look and pick a spot on one shot.

While we were sloppy and slow, this is one time where the Hot Goaltender tag also works. Forget the number of shots, we had a number of opportunities where the shots were quick, to corners, or off rebounds, and Bob stopped them all.

Against another goalie, we might have stolen a win, even with all the rest of the junk.

Nash activated. ..Sutter and Boychuk returned to Charlotte. So, either Staal and/or Tlusty will be playing Monday, or JR was just ensuring Boychuk could be sent down without waivers. He still had one more game before waivers came back into play.

Not a big fan of the move. I would rather see Boychuk stay up versus Bowman and wish this move was not about money. In reality what would it really cost to field the better team if Boychuk stayed up (and played well) and Bowman earned his remaining salary in AHL? I think it would be around $265K so it makes me even madder as Bowman hasn't shown much and Boychuk has at least a hint of "potential". Bad move JR.

One off ir and two sent down.
Is staal or cward coming back soon?
Will boy be called up for emergency?
I didn't like him being sent down either.

I don't think you can recall a player who has been sent down until 1 week has elapsed. So Boychuk can come back on an emergency recall, but I don't think they can do that right away.

Yeah ... I don't get the fascination with Bowman either. He's been decent this season, but only as a grinder in the offensive zone. He's really not doing much else out there. Boychuk isn't particularly suited to that role but at least he offers a bit of offensive spark should your top scorers falter a bit. It's a fine line, I know.

On the game ... yeah, team loss. The attack seemed a little stale, especially compared to the game against Toronto when they were so sharp with their puck movement. The D was just a mess at times, but I'm not hanging it on any one guy. None of them looked particularly strong. Bellemore has only put out maybe three stinkers all season, and that's pretty good for a guy with his lack of experience. And honestly, you score a goal somewhere in the second period and the whole feel of the game probably shifts as well. Goalie Bob was a freaking wall ... that must be accounted for IMO. Lots of teams blame a hot keeper when they fail to score, but he was pretty doggone good last night.

So ... wash that one out and go get the next one.

Agree that IF they could have gotten it to 2-1 somewhere in the second, it MIGHT have been a slightly different game. But the overall flow was definitely tilted their way. Just out-energied us, directed us into non-scoring areas, and yeah, that goalie of theirs.

Individual props to Gerbe for being a general nuisance throughout the game and to Lindholm, who along with Gerbe could occasionally be found right at the goal mouth.

Skinner got off 7 shots, Semin and Lindholm 5 apiece, and Gerbe got 4. 36 shots overall is noteworthy...but most were of the Mo "hot goalie" variety, straight to the logo or the victim of some really nice saves on Bobrobsky's part.

Can't win 'em all. Move on.

Bob was seeing the puck all night, maintaining good position and had good rebound control. Not a lot of garbage at his feet to work with. It was about time for the Canes to lay an egg. I hope we see balanced, more confident group going forward. Whatever was going on prior to the new years eve game hopefully has been addressed and the guys maintain their confidence and ability to bounce back.
