GDT: Canes v. Bruins 4/7 7:00

Tampa lost in Ottawa, Montreal beat Florida in the shootout. The top 3 in the Atlantic are tied on 102 points, 4 points behind the Canes, all with 4 games left. Bolts and Slugs have a 3 game advantage in regulation wins, the Canes have a 4 game advantage over the Habs.

The Bolts go to Montreal on Thursday, Boston on Saturday. They finish at home with Detroit and the Rangers. Slugs have a back to back tomorrow and Thursday, at the Rangers, home to Columbus. They go to Chicago on Monday and finish at home for Dallas. Montreal is home for Tampa on Thursday and Columbus on Saturday then at the Islanders on Sunday and Flyers on Tuesday. Canes probably need 4 points on the roadie to wrap up the conference.
 
Another entertaining - if not crazy - home game. The Canes completely dominated the Bruins in the 2nd and then let them creep back in the 3rd. Our top line was AWOL (except for Svech, who looked dialed in most of the game), but our 2nd was buzzing. I don't know what's going on defensively, but it was a bit of a mess that lead directly to goals against. And Bussi? He's seemed to be a nervous wreck for several games now. I guess our strategy in the playoffs will be to fire away and hope we can score a lot of goals, 'cause it doesn't appear our goaltending will save us.
 
Wild game with plenty of guys pairing really, really good plays with really, really bad plays … including the goalies. No takeaways really, because it was an outlier for the Canes. Just glad that Jarvy appeared to weather that hard hit without too much difficultly and that the Canes got the home season closed out with a W … even if it was a weird one.

Yeah, that’s about my math as well. 3 points makes it likely, but 4 points in the next four probably wraps up first seed in the East for Carolina. A lot will depend on how seriously everyone involved takes these last few games. The Canes are gonna want to rest some guys, and potentially to get Kochetkov out there to shake off some rust. Tampa may want to do something similar, but I’m guessing Buffalo will ride ‘em until they drop. Not sure about Montreal, but a Division win has to be tempting for a team with their history that hasn’t hung any banners in a long while. They might put their heads down and try to steal that race at the wire.
 
One last thing from the game. Al Hood contributes to Canes Country. He tweeted this last night, he took the photo from the press box, this is the front row of 325. If you look at the photo, the person wearing the Svech jersey is my wife, I’m wearing the Aho jersey. This guy was up and down all night yelling and screaming about INTENSITY and FORECHECK and PUT A BODY ON HIM. The usher had a few words with him early because people sitting behind him couldn’t see around him. But he ignored the usher and the usher ignored him the rest of the night. His wife tried to rein him in to no avail. He was hammered so bad that in the 3rd period, when Korpisalo made a good save, he was cheering for Swayman. A guy sitting behind us yelled at him that Swayman was pulled in the 2nd. He said that he was in the bathroom when it happened but he wasn’t, he stood and cheered for Swayman as he skated by while we were waving him off the ice. At the end of the game, he shook my hand and wished us luck in the playoffs.
