You’re a machine with these Kevin!!!
That was Aho’s 18th OT goal since 3 on 3 OT was introduced for the 2015-16 season, tied for 2nd all time with Crosby and Marchand. Draisaitl leads with 20. The other 3 had a 1 year head start on him, his first season was 2016-17.Aho was a beast in that OT!
FWIW, everybody is doing that or something like it. I appreciate Kopitar’s career as much as anyone, but I find it a bit weird that he’s getting the year long retirement tour treatment. Two Selkes, three Lady Bings, two Cups and 1,300-ish points makes him a lock to be a Hall of Famer, but he’s getting the kind of sendoff you normally see for all time greats … like legit all time greats, like Gretzky or Lemieux.Classy recognition of Kopitar by Canes.
These second games of back to back sets when both happen in the afternoon SUCK. Having both teams in that situation levels the playing field, but basically guarantees a terrible game for fans. This was a grinding game, which isn't very fun to watch, but it got pretty hot late in the 3rd period and OT. Unlike the previous game, we took possession of puck and never gave the Kings a chance - and Aho looked hell-bent on driving the puck across the goal line. I loved the fact that Staal went to congratulate Kopitar immediately after the win, and the rest of the Canes followed the Captain's lead.
It was a handshake line. The didn’t buy him a Harley and send him and his family to the CaribbeanFWIW, everybody is doing that or something like it. BTW, I’m not complaining. I just find it a bit over the top.
No. It’s 31 handshake lines. It was a handshake line. The didn’t buy him a Harley and send him and his family to the Caribbean
I think it's also a function of how widely respected he is, beyond just his excellent on-ice performance.No. It’s 31 handshake lines.
And also see the part where I’m just pointing out that it’s weird … because it is.
Back to the game itself … this point is too good to pass by casually. Aho’s game winner was pure filth and it came at the end of a game that saw him robbed multiple times by Forsberg. He didn’t get distracted by whatever the heck was going on with Ghost and Kempe, only checking to see if Ghost was onside … and then he went to work on Forsberg. He didn’t just sell the pass, he offered it like a BOGO discount, and it took every bit of salesmanship and a bit of a deflection to beat Forsberg. The guy is the king of OT and a freaking menace with open ice … other than in a shootout, of course.Just watched Aho's game winner. Once he crossed the blue line, he didn't once look at the goal. He was staring down his teammate that was to his left then let it rip. It hit someone's stick on the way in, but that doesn't take away Aho's great job of looking off like that.
Also he seems to be pretty universally liked and respected, and played at that level for so long. As opposed to when Marchand retires. He’s been a total douche for his career - hopefully no handshake like for him. Although Tripp will probably want to do something. It was a handshake line.
