GDT: Canes v. Sharks 12/7 5:00

I’m not doom and gloom. I find it hilarious that we have one of the best teams in the league and people go all nutty when they struggle for a few games. I imagine if/when this team goes back to pre-BrindAmour trash I’ll have to stop reading this board, X and a the others because it will be a cesspool of hate. Lol

Anyway, that’s the design of Rod’s offense. Shoot, shoot, shoot. There will always be games where the canes take 200 shots and score 1 goal. They shoot everything. Bad angles, low percentage, doesn’t matter. You’re going to have games like this. It’s been this way for 6 years it’s nothing new. There have been 100 games we’ve outshot opponents and lost or not scored. This is not a new phenomenon.

They do need a legit 2C that can score. They did great getting Ehler’s and he’s starting to produce. They need one more piece and, in my opinion, another goalie.

Even so, they will still win tons of games and finish at, or near the top of the standings. Let’s stop acting like this is a bottom dwelling team.

Really that shot total was mostly empty calorie shots being forced in the 3rd period. There wasn't a lot of dangerous chances generated by the Canes even in the 3rd period when we finally decided to try to steal a win we seemingly had little interest in getting in the first 2 periods.

Agree with what you're saying, but I don't really see any doom and gloom on this post. We all know that Brindy's team will consistently attempt a lot of low-percentage shots, and I think we recognize that 4 games over 6 days is a marathon - and pointed out that we just looked tired. I do find that our goalie situation with Freddie isn't good and that a 2nd C / sniper is needed. Just like every other team in the league.

Yeah, it's been the same for going on 5 or 6 years now. I kind of put it in cruise control during this part of the season because it's the kind of annual event that I really, really don't need in my life. And I'm not so much pointing fingers at this board specifically so much as the fan base in general.
I'm just not going to participate in the annual freakout when the team has a rough couple of weeks. And if somebody wants to argue with me about that, then feel free. I'm probably not participating in that either.

It was in response to ksbeecane’s post where he mentioned doom and gloom on X and other places. I just didn’t hit the quote button because I posted right after him and thought it was Implied lol.

I’m more talking about other places that go completely batshit crazy over this stuff. Imagine how this place and other places would be if the canes were a bad team…. For the last 6 years we’ve been able to follow one of the best teams in the league year in and year out yet most people do nothing but complain about literally everything. Follow game threads and by the end of the year you’ll be able to go back and see at some point that someone thinks every player on the team is terrible and should be traded. It’s exhausting. It’s a long season and some people expect perfection from game 1 to 82.

What is worse, complaining about a hockey game or complaining about someone complaining about a hockey game? 😇

No Chicken Little here on the sky is falling but this is not the season to go in the stink tank for 10 of 12 games and think that everything is just like all the other years because frankly it is not! Between the condensed schedule with the Olympics, more injuries than usual and the tightness of the East top to bottom with even the predicted weak sisters like Philly/Islanders etc right there next to you, no long losing streaks or plodding along laying too many eggs is going to work. Just the reality of this season as it stands now, the Canes play consistent enough hockey as a team that it should be fine, but I think this year just feels a little different when it comes to how tight things are top to bottom in the Eastern Conference.

It's the same schedule as last year, since the 4 Nations squashed the schedule last year the same way the Olympics are doing this year. The East is the East. It's more competitive this year, but only because the mushy middle has grown. The Canes have been first or second in the Metro right from the opening week. So ... yeah, maybe don't lose like 5 in a row, but otherwise this is just another season and this club is absolutely good enough to make the playoffs even with some bumps in the road.

There's so much bad going on in the world right now that getting uptight over sports is more than a bit absurd. It's just entertainment. No more, no less.

That being said, I'm glad that I was at the neighborhood holiday party for this one. Even if some of the attendees were talking sports.
