GDT: Canes v. Stars 1/6 7:00

Really nice performance by the Canes. Again, they’re kind of built to disrupt what teams like Dallas and Colorado want to do, but executing it is another matter. It was also a refreshing change of pace to get some help from an opposing goalie as opposed to seeing yet another guy post a career night. Otter wasn’t horrible, but he didn’t do his team any favors either.

Tip of the cap to the moronic Stars fan who sat behind me last night. He was utterly incredulous that Hurricanes fans were so rude to Rantanen, at one point blurting out “no wonder he hated it here” … as if he got booed the entire time he was a Hurricane. Some people are so stupid that you really wonder how they get through basic daily tasks. For every “Miko sucks” you heard last night, just know that there was one nimrod yelling “Miko’s great” like he and he alone could overwhelm the crowd.

Am I the only one on this board who can claim to have visited both Kamloops and Regina?!
I've only been to Regina. It was a very nice summer day. But that area is so flat you could watch your dog run away for 3 days.

It was a fun night at the Lenovo Center. The boos came fast and furious the moment the Stars stepped on the ice. They got even louder during Rantanen's first shift even when he didn't have the puck. I think the fans quickly realized that doesn't work, especially when the Canes had the puck - so they wisely switched to ONLY when he touched the puck. I think the "Logan's Better" started in Sec. 328 and quickly spread throughout the arena. I'm not big on booing, but I couldn't help myself and joined the fun late in the game.

The Canes played a smart possession game, and our defense was awesome. The whole team seemed motivated, whether to extract some revenge on Mikko's snub, or to reverse the disastrous trend of blowing a 2-goal lead - and maintained a calm demeanor throughout the game. I think we only had one or two instances where we seemed to panic a bit in our zone. And there was a brief moment when the Stars scored their 2nd goal that you could sense the collective tightening of sphincters in the stands. - but Carrier's goal put an end to that.

It would help the Canes tremendously if more teams' forwards played the same level of defense that Mikko Rantanen did last night.
Honestly, I would have been embarrassed for him on that Stankoven goal if he had been any other player. That was just pitiful.

Waaaaaaaaaaaaaay back when I had hair, it was all dark, and I was thin, we'd target one opposing player at Reynolds for something; boos, reading a paper, the silent treatment, etc. It was always amusing.

Probably only exceeded the reception Keith Primeau got after his trade to Philly

Looking back, it should have been cheers since it brought Brindy to the franchise

Of all the reasons Miko could have picked to decide to not enjoy playing here, I cannot help but think it was that type of lazy, disastrous defensive play like he showed last night which would have never flown here under this current regime...

And the Primeau hate continued for multiple games after that first return to Raleigh.
