A matinee in the State of Hockey.

The Canes blew 2 leads against Buffalo on Thursday but won in OT on a right circle blast from Dougie Hamilton. Aho, Turbo and Svech had the other goals. Martinook is back after missing 15 games with a core muscle injury. He’ll slot onto the 4th line with McGinn and Haula.

The Wild carry a 5 game home point streak into the game, going 4-0-1 in that stretch. But they sit last in the Central, with 15 points in 19 games. This is only their 7th home game though. Eric Staal leads with 6 goals and 14 points. He and Jared Spurgeon have 8 assists. They’ve settled on some line combos with Koivu centering Parise and Fiala and Staal between Zucker and Canes killer Zuccarello in the top 6. Victor Rask centers the 4th line. He’s played 10 games and has 1g, 1a and is winning less than 41% of his faceoffs. Staal, linemate Jason Zucker, Zach Parise and Matt Dumba are all in the bottom 10 in the league at -11 or worse. Devan Dubnyk has started 12 games in goal and arrives a 3.30/.896 stat line. He’s caked up by Alex Stalock at 2.85/.903. The Wild are 26th in goals scored per game at 2.63 and 24th in goals against per game at 3.42. They’re 18th on the PP at 18.6% and 11st on the PK at 83.0%

Ugh ... completely forgot this was an afternoon game and I promised my Dad I'd go do some stuff with him. That's what DVRs are for, I guess.

As mentioned, the Wild are a different team on home ice and this is not the gimme for Carolina that a lot of people seem to think it is. Biggest difference being that Minnesota actually scores goals at home for whatever reason. They're still a popgun offensively but maybe they like the lighting better, or whatever. They have a basic construction problem this season, when taken as a whole ... not enough possession and scoring to offset fairly woeful goaltending. Their team save percentage between Dubnyk and Stalock is well below .900, which just isn't good enough considering they play a pretty good defensive structure that doesn't allow a ton of quality chances against. So, for Carolina ... shoot the thing early, often and from everywhere.

Forgot it was an afternoon game. I'll be at the theater watching Ford vs Ferrari. Let's hope the boys put in a strong performance.

I hate Sat. Matinee's due to working on Saturday.

Mind telling me it's over what you thought of it? Thanks!. :)

Reimer gets the start in goal.

Today’s officials:

Referees:
Ghislain Hebert #22, Jon McIssac #2

Linesmen:
Travis Toomey #90, Brian Murphy #93

Canes were 0-4 with Hebert and 5-2 with McIsaac last year. Both were near the top of the league in home team win %, McIsaac 3rd at 61$, Hebert 8th at 59%. Toomey is working a split AHL/NHL contract, this will be his 11th NHL game.

One of my brother-in-law’s best friends growing up in Dallas was Shawn Shelby, grandson of Carroll

We went to see Ford vs Ferrari last night at the Alamo Draft House and I thought it was a really, really fun film. Very much a throwback movie that could have starred Steve McQueen back in the day, except with stupidly good modern technology. Bale and Damon were both pretty spot on and that opening race sequence was fantastic ... just fun night out at the movies.

Not even to the first TV timeout and Canes are up 2-0 on goals from noted offensive juggernauts Edmundson and McGinn.

This second period is starting to look like a
Brindy Verbal Assault during a time-out is needed. The Canes have just stopped skating or doing much of anything other than standing around.

Canes cheating and out of position all day long, should be about 5-2 Wild without Reimer, garbage effort and Canes mailing it in.

And if Gardiner does not soon wake up he should be the healthy scratch, that guy has done shit to date.

I'm wondering if I should have tuned in... they were doing so much better before I did...

Time to regroup ... again. The road is tough in this league and you can't coast.

And on Gardiner ... the way he's going right now, I wouldn't be opposed to letting him watch Fleury and TVR hold down the 3rd pairing for a couple of games and put Slavin at the point on the 2nd PP unit. He's not doing much of anything with that unit and other than some decent passing out of the zone, his defensive play has swerved into the "not good enough" lane over the past 4-5 games. Get your head together, Jake.

I'm doing the opposite...watching the game this afternoon and have tickets to the 8:30 showing at The Grande!
