GDT: Wild at Canes 7 PM

Nylander can stay in Toronto. I wouldn't have given up a third of what the Leafs fans wanted for him. And at his pay rate now? No thanks. I might have considered swapping Faulk. And nothing more. But I think Nylander is overpaid now. Don't want.

If we were going to trade a RHD, there would have been riots in the street if it were Pesce. He’s having a helluva season.

And I'm not sure a kid holding out like he did is the type of players this team needs. Again, Toronto can keep him.

That was the thing I came here to post. He and Teräväinen have been the best Canes for a while now and trading him for Nylander or whoever is just bad business.

I think that's the reason Carolina's discussions about trading for Nylander never really got anywhere. They wanted Peace, we said no.

That said, Nylander's got too much game not to go back to being his normal productive self eventually. He was badly unsettled by the negotiations and has looked a bit shell shocked this season when I've seen him. He's not some bum ... he'll be fine eventually. Probably over-paid a bit, but that's hardly unique for do-it-all forward types. There's a bunch of guys with his tool kit floating around on huge contracts producing 2nd or 3rd line numbers.

To the game ... bad 1st period by both teams I thought, as nobody really ever got going in their possession game. After that ... all Carolina. They got the forecheck going, started to dominate the neutral zone and eventually got some pucks to drop. Minny folded, and then got all petulant after the final whistle to complete the embarrassment. It was a pretty pitiful showing for a team right in the mix for the last playoff spot in the West.
