General Leafs News & Notes

Not that we shouldn't make improvements...more that we shouldn't rush into making changes for the sake of it...we can afford to be patient until the right upgrades become available.

agreed but that also means you shouldn't rush into resigning a guy to a big money multi year extension just because they made the playoffs this year.

nothing against bozak and i'm not entirely against re-signing him, but he sort of is exactly the type of player hte leafs have gotten themselves into so much trouble with since 05-06. small, average to a bit above average offensively, poor defensively, not very physical.

For whatever reason, bozak is one of the few leafs whose reputation is better than his actual play. i think bozak stays tradeable even at $4m per.j

... as for his being average or a bit above average offensively, he's at the bottom of the pile in points production among forwards with 20+ minutes of ice per game. Strikes me as distinctly below average.

That doesn't say much..It's like saying Gardiner was benched because he just isn't that good. Mac has averaged 40+ pts in the past 3 years so he's obviously a pretty decent player. Mac being out had to do more with him competing on the boards harder(he's a small guy) so they decided to switch him and Frattin at times.

Its not even remotely comparable. Gardiner is a kid coming off a serious injury. Mac is a seasoned vet.

What is says is the Leafs have the depth that doesn't require them to resign Mac for big money. And don't forget just as guys like Colborne and Frattin are pushing guys like Bozak and Mac out of the lineup, more prospects are on the way. Namely McKegg, D'Amigo and Ross. Guys like Bozak and Mac are a dime a dozen.

Man that's a great looking line-up.

Yup, Phaneuf was one of the Leafs best players.

He lined up against the Bergeron line early in the series and that line did shit. Then he switched to the hot Krejci line and they did very little the rest of the series.

He led the entire series in hits, was second in blocks and minutes played and he chipped in a little offense as well.

Getting beat in front if the net by lucic and chara (the two best crease guys in the league) is no insult, really...especially in a shorthanded situation. even then, there was some seeing eye luck for those pucks to go in.
