Yeah, the boys gutted that one out. No real shock that Jersey had the jump early, since it’s Carolina and they have to be sick of losing to the Canes and they had the rest advantage. But after that, woof. It turned into the same old, same old for the Devils. Keefe really has no ideas for unlocking Carolina’s defense and the frustration levels on that bench when they play the Canes are honestly impressive.
Best effort from Freddie in what? 2 months? Nice to see, for sure, and hopefully he can start to build back some confidence. I doubt his movement is going to improve but having some confidence will help a lot and maybe Carolina can settle into a nice rotation to avoid overworking the adult rookie. Also, nice to see Nystrom back in the mix even if it’s just because of continued poor health on D. Also nice to see Slavin manage back to back games, even if he got about half a night off on Friday. Hopefully he can keep rounding into his game and the Canes can start to build some confidence on the kill. If they can get that going, then there’s way less chance of these 2-3 game rough patches.

It looked to me that he got his footwork wrong and almost fell over.
Markstrom used to have mental lapses early in his career and sometimes gave up goals where it looked like forgot to get down in the butterfly. That kind of looked like one of those. That was a reason the Panthers didn’t really trust him when he won their starting job back at the beginning of his career.
