Habs News & Notes: 2014 Offseason & Training Camp

Not a huge fan of Gilbert or Emelin in the top 4. I can see NB pushing out Emelin soon.

I am not a fan of either Emelin or Gilbert as i said earlier but what exactly Nate did in this camp to make you think he will be a top 4 D ? Did he even look great in what he is known : offensive D ,so far?
Nate played in this camp and preseason like 10 years veteran who is sure about making the team

The reality is non of 3 guys who were mentioned about making the team in D( Nate, Pateryn, Tinordi) had a great camp/preseason , so is choice between bad and worst if you ask me ..

Bergevin's worst contract by far.

nah , Clarkson is a f kup....... Moen at 1.8 is manageable and moveable for another slug in the same pay range, Briere was the move that made no sense from day 1 and now we have a 2 year PAP who is soft and not the answer on the top 6 .

Well you can add Emelin, Eller and probably Gilbert too !Not as bad as Moen and Brière but still overpaid in all 3 cases !

Emelin needed about 18 months to get back to form , lets give him this year to be that thumper he showed in the past , Eller was our best forward in the playoffs regardless what anyone says, he wasnt going nowhere and his 3.5 is fine , many teams will chase him if he is ever on the block . Gilbert for 2.8 x 2 is better than the many 4 mil slugs teams have on their payroll .
They are all overpaid but managing your bottom 6 and bottom d pairing payroll is key in this cap world.

4 years at 1.8M with an NTC to boot is really really dumb, even if it doesn't hurt as much given the low amount.

Briere ended up being pretty manageable, and can we wait for the regular season to see about PAP?

When you finish almost dead last on a team with no size, you need to overpay for it. No biggie.

The length and the NTC are ridiculous for a player like him at that age. The money doesn't hurt too much but given that MB has been fairly good overall with contracts, this one stands out as a bad one. I think it might even be his very first contract.

Not positive, but thought I read somewhere, Moen's NTC was only for the 1st 2-yrs of the deal.

just checked capgeek, "Modified NTC for 2012-2013 and 2013-2014" - therefore no NTC moving forward, and there are sure to be takers in a 30-team league IMO, for a guy "hockey people" seem to have lots of respect for.

The East will be even worse than last year...the Bruins are not getting better, they're still gonna be the best team but I don't see them on the up swing anymore.

Pittsburgh should be the same as should the Rangers.

The only team I really see being a wildcard to be dominant is TB

Anyone can come out of the East if they win a round

Not sure I like the hab love.

IMO the Habs biggest issue will (once again) be 5-on-5 scoring - Parenteau will help the PP, but will be a 5-on-5 liability.

Everything will depend on MB being able to pry a Bobby Ryan-type or better yet Bobby Ryan himself!

Just sayin....

Tokarski will never make it through the waiver wire unclaimed. However I also wonder how good he will be playing just 10 - 15 games a year.
