Habs News & Notes: Regular Season 2019-2020

There is a potential silver lining with the announced suspension of the season....NHL after all is a gate receipt business.

With lack of revenue generation for potentially 12%-15% of the season (with this announcement), any cap increase for next season will be negated. Question now becomes how many of the teeter tottering franchises can suck up potential revenue losses and could the Habs finally take advantage of a financially vulnerable team?

We have been saying for decades for the habs to use their financial might to do something. They haven't done JACK SHT! They had the chance to sell and rebuild several times, they didn't do JACK SHT! Pleeeeeease for the love of god, accept the mediocre franchise for what it is and stop pretending they will do something good. Thank you.

I don't think I'll ever forgive Bergevin for his treatment of Markov.

The mistreatment and blatant disrespect of the General was the last straw for me as a Canadien fan.

Or more like the breaking point.

Post 2004-2005 lock-out, Markov was the difference maker in Montreal and the key ingredient for the Canadien to compete at a relevant level.

The team’s performances and stats were day and night wether or not he was in the line-up.

We knew the end was coming.

Even if the direction was dead set on not resigning him, they should have treated the man better at the end of his tenure in Montreal, with respect.

I’ve got no idea what this “mistreatment” is about - Markov was over 35, visibly subpar skating and rightfully offered a 1-year deal. It’s a business not a hallmark card commercial. Lidstrom for years accepted a slew of 1-year deals...were the Wings “mistreating” one of the greatest Dman of all time?

Bang on Sal , I think its way overblown

No one offered a 2 year deal to keep him in the NHL or overpaid on a 1 year deal

BTW , how is the situation in Connecticut

My cousin is a nurse in New Britain and says its really bad , plus her brother now has Covid

it’s the southern part of CT which has been hit hardest (given proximity to NYC) - Fairfield county, New Haven and Hartford county have felt the 90% with Fairfield having over 60% of cases.

We live in the epicenter in Westport, where it kicked off with a big party inviting folks from all around the globe, who then went their separate ways to contaminate...

The biggest issue for the first few weeks was getting people who were present or knew people attending that party to come forward and overcoming their fear of social stigmatization. There are areas of CT which have not been touched.

Once this pandemic has passed and accurate data collected it’ll only confirm what is already pretty evident (a socioeconomic disaster) - the poor & old will have been hit immeasurably hard.

I’m very curious how people will be introduced back into normalcy or whatever the new norm ends up starting off as...

I totally agree. A fair contract was on the table. But Markov decided to go in this one without an agent and I don't think he was prepared so he took things personally. That's where an agent help bridge the gap.

GW , how is the virus situation up in Seattle

It's quiet here, still on lockdown but it's not spreading like crazy, plus the weather has been crazy nice, my pool has been open for 2 weeks already, something never seen before.

The sad news is my wife caught the virus but she's doing better now. I suspect we all got it to different degrees. My daughter has a medium cough, I have a small one and my son has nothing. But my wife had full blown pneumonia, fever, coughing blood, chills, body aches...

Also her test came back negative but doctors are certain she has it. Problem is tests have close to 40-50% false negative around here, so that's really stupid.
