for sure they can be wrong....recency bias + some decent moves = the Habs are now the offseason "it team"

happens in every sport league, as pundits run over each other trying to pick an underdog to watch. you don't get any points for picking the most talented teams to win

Carbonneau as your 3rd line center, a young John Leclair, even Lebeau was pretty good depth...93 looks deeper everywhere (at least as of today, maybe by next spring we will say the opposite)

Lebeau was something like 60th in scoring with 80-points iirc

my point is the roadmap is the same....hot goaltender and timely contributions...but I would say that recipe is even harder to pull off today as the game is more wide open.

Mario had an off year in 92-93 with something like 160-points and top-20 were all over 100-points iirc

The game is far less wide open in comparison today and goalies far better

goalies are definitely way better so the variance between netminders is smaller, so IMO, it's harder to rely on that advantage for 4 rounds.

Game is also much more structured and defensive game planning far more intricate & detailed

1992-93 was a beautiful anomaly, a flashback to the high scoring days of the early 80s, but with better goaltending and structure.

well, if we're gonna be half as good as Sal's pundits are saying, we're going to need someone (or two) to step up and become a heck of a player. Having Gally as our best forward will not take us very far.
