Is he though? Adequate for what is the question.Montembault is adequate for now.

Won't stop the muffins from out far.Definitely. It would be interesting to see how Sam does with a good defense in front of him, if he ever gets that chance.

Even a 0.910 sv% has us comfortably in the playoffs. For now. But not for a contending team.
There is like 9 goalies in the league with >= 0.910%Even a 0.910 sv% has us comfortably in the playoffs.
Yet it's the shot from 30 feet that all D will allow because they're supposed to be low danger that beats Monty far too often. Our D zone play does suck most nights. Way too many great looks for the opposing team.
Oh most definitely.Shesterkin has had an off year. He's had seasons that Monty only dreams of having.
And paid fairlyMontembault is adequate for now.
Agreed. We picked Monty up on waivers. He has improved his game since we got him. I have no issues with his game. Yes he lets in some "muffins" but all goalies do even the greats. Reading the posts on here in regards to some of the goals scored on him leaves me scratching my head. ie: the point shot he let in against Vancouver, I was sitting centre ice just above penalty box and had a clear view of that shot, Monty never saw it leave the stick.. hard to pick up a shot when you don't see it leave the stick. Monty is not our future goaltender. but he is our present one and I have no issues with that, he is here until Dobes or Fowler take the reins.. Monty has come a long way since his first game as a hab.
It’s why Dryden said Price was the greatest Habs goalie he ever saw - never had anywhere near a dominant team in front of him.We picked Monty up on waivers. He has improved his game since we got him. But but Price wasn’t elite remember …he couldn’t win them the Cup he was “outplayed” by the opposition GAgreed.
Habs fans have been spoiled with elite goaltending so expectations are too high.
Wasn't elite in the playoffs. Let's worry about that if we ever make itBut but Price wasn’t elite remember …he couldn’t win them the Cup he was “outplayed” by the opposition G
Best playoff sv % amongst G from 2014-2021 w 20GP+ says otherwiseWasn't elite in the playoffs. Let's worry about that if we ever make it

Our goalie tandem is paid peanuts , nothing to complain aboutAgree. And people underestimate how much shots have improved in the past few years. Beating a goalie clean with a wrist shot from the faceoffs circles is now a common occurrence in the league, shots are precise and hard. It either hits the goalie or he has to guess correctly, but shooters are good at deception too. The days of having the luxury to react to a shot from those distance are gone.
Is he an elite goaltender? No. Is he a starter in this league? Yes. Is he our goalie of the future? No. But we don't have to spend assets or try to make a big splash for a goalie either, plus his salary is more than reasonable.
