He wont take it but needs the Ekholm discount for 4 years x 6 mil

Habs are just unwinding shit contracts cant start another one now when cap dollars count entering the compete phase

If he leaves move on , dont need Petry 2.0
 
Yeah. I heard some podcast grandees saying we can’t afford him, but they seemed to have forgotten he’s already almost a 5M cap hit. So 6 would be an incremental increase of 1.12M and would hardly make a dent in the 29.5 in new space comprised of cap increases and the expiry of Anderson and Gallagher contracts. That leave a lot of head room for Hutson, Demidov and Bolduc.

But, if we sign Matheson, I think that means Reinbacher is gonzo.

Cap going up means nothing but possibly making more mistakes

Need to be ruthless cant do what Nero did , now every cap dollar counts

No going term for MM

I have always said lock up your core as long as you can after ELC. Huge sample size that you do don't get burnt too often.

Plus trade clauses don't kick in for years and are easily movable if needed.

But MM is not a player we have to go in at all costs to lock up. 4 years or trade him.

Skating is his bread & butter elite skill set … never had knee / hip injury / surgery which would impact his skating as he gets older = high probability MM will remain an elite mobile Dman into his mid 30s

This idea that 6m is the new 4 is nonsense

MM will remain good in his mid thirties is one thing , you want a 7 year deal that takes him to 40 to lower his AAV

Bad deals are bad regardless of a rising cap

Calgary and Edmonton are not celebrating because Huby and Nurse deals look better in a 100 mil cap

MM has one home run deal left in him and isnt leaving a nickel on the table

Preds fucked up with Skeji and others locking up D in their 30s

Structure a 4 year front loaded deal that will expire as Suzuki goes for his home run.

MM is a secondary player not a core player
