Habs sign Jakub Jerabek to one-year deal

Eric Engels:
Vadim Shipachyov, who has his sights set on the NHL, will not be a Montreal Canadien. He's fielding some big offers, Habs looking elsewhere.

Well, year two into having the worst first line center in the league.

Why we do automatically assume that Engels tweet is correct? It might be but it might not. I don't recall the Canadiens being mentioned as a possible destination for Radulov last year before he signed with us on July 1.

shopping in the discount bin again.

It's a nice built-in excuse though, not having a #1 centre because they don't grow on trees, then not being interested in a potential one when they're available

The habs are great at one thing, accumulating depth talent and making the fans believe quantity = quality. Except this year, I don't know what MB was thinking with King/Ott etc...

Ground and pound our way to the cup.

Shame hits aren't counted the same way goals are.

Deets from Pierre LeBrun:

• Max 1-year ELC with signing bonus but no performances bonuses ($832.5k salary, $92.5k sb and $70k in AHL); total AAV of $925k.
• Told that Jerabek had offers from 8 NHL teams and discussions with other clubs as well.

True but I also wonder why some are so hell bent on bringing over and paying big dollars to what could be the next Fabian Brunstrom

The Habs rarely get a player in whom other teams also have interest. They usually get the ones that no one else is bidding on. And if the Rangers (or teams from Florida where there's no state taxes to pay) are among those other interested teams the Habs don't even need to bother making a call to the agent because they have absolutely zero chance of landing that player.

Wow, you have think he took a discount to sign with the Habs.

Re: Rumour: Jakub Jerabek to Habs?

According to Sportsnet he can be sent to the minors without having to clear waivers. But will be a UFA next summer.

Yeah I read he's waiver-exempt, but also read he has a clause in his contract that says he can return to Europe if he doesn't make the Habs.
