Habs sign Paul Byron to three-year, $3.5M deal

I agree, our 4rth line isn't big and ideally you want some size.

Mitchell and Flynn are not big bodies, Flynn may be over 6'0 but he's built like a stick.

The best fourth line in hockey is on the Islanders, they are a pain to play against, are gritty and chip in once in a while.

I still to this day do not understand the constant necessity to give term for depth players.

I understand that you can bury them at no cost in the AHL. That isn't the point.

Mitchell, Byron & Flynn are all signed and we only need one of those players. The other two are just taking up space for... why?

>says he wants this team to be bigger and tougher to play against
>signs one of the smallest players in the league for three years

For a guy that was on waivers.

Why was he on waivers anyway? Not like Calgary is rich with talent.

He has had four years on the job. I still say it is because he was a scrub and is always known as the 3rd guy on the Ville Emard Hurricanes behind Daigneault and Lemieux. He prefers the scrubs because he was one.

very few GMs or coaches were above scrubs

so it should apply across the league

It doesn't to this guy, who's an NHL GM, and a very good one:

Hartley hated him.

This is actually not true. Hartley does a weekly stink on Montreal French sports Radio where he discuss the league and his team. Mentionned that he really like Byron but the issue with Calgary was that he was often injured and because of it, didn't get the opportunity to proove himself. Hartley said he was disapointed when he was claimed but they were hoping his size would have people let him slide because I think he was being sent down in the AHL to try to get his things going after an injury to see more ice.

Yep, injuries and size were the main factors, I also read that Hartley liked him but they too had too many small players.

You think that career totals of 58 goals and 87 assists elevates Nill above the scrub level? It's barely better than Bergevin's numbers as a player.

No, my point was that Nill WAS a scrub, which you missed because, I assume, you didn't read Worm's post in the context that it was posted.
