Habs sign PK Subban to eight-year, $72 million deal

I don't remember the last time there wasn't a divide in the locker room.

Obviously every coach has favorite but I've been trying to think very hard about who Therrien didn't treat fairly.

He was a bit rough on Subban at times but that's about it.
Briere definitely.
Bournival is another that I feel didn't get a fair deal from the coach.

I think for the most part the rest of the players were used fairly, with the usual coach inclination towards the vets at the expense of the kids.

he wont last 2 years and gets some severance pay in the mean time

We said the same thing 2 years ago. Eventually it's bound to be right.

Poor guy, 75-42-13 and people can't wait for him to be canned.

I can't wait to see our new and improved French coach after him.

I keep hearing that PK and Max Pac are to get serious consideration. Also, Plekanec and Markov (who doesn't even seem to want it)

My thoughts? At very first, I thought it would be a good idea to have a "bridge" captain in the person of Plekanec. But there are guys all over the league who were named captain earlier than 25. Subban is almost certainly going to spend his prime as a Hab. There really is nothing else to wait for.

There is no hockey market like Montreal, and I'm saying that from the Toronto area. At this point, I can't see the negatives. Even speaking french is not at issue as it relates to the other real candidates. They are not francophone and he is doing what he can to learn french.

Positives: media savvy, thick skin, hard worker, a "gamer" who can step up when they need a lift, can take the coach getting on his case, highly doubt the demands of being a captain affect him, will take heat off his teammates.
You also see more subtle signs like congratulating each teammate as they leave the ice after a win and controlling the music in the room. (right, Dion Phaneuf?) I think it's time to make a move to a longer term captain like most good teams do.

There's rumors swirling that Markov will get the C until the end of this contract and that should be the perfect amount of time to allow either PK or Max to get more comfortable as leaders

I think Gallagher can maybe also move into the mix as a leader over the next two to three years

When does 14's contract expire? I don't think they want a one or two tear captain.

That's exactly what they want...PK and Max should be wearing A's before they become captains.

This way you give Markov or Pleks the C and have PK and Max wear an A for two or three years and than one of them graduates to the captain position

14 won't be the Captain.
