Habs trade PK Subban to Predators for Shea Weber

30+ yrs if u count the godfathers of grunge.....Jane's Addiction.

neil young is the godfather of grunge

jane's addiction barely predated nirvana and I would put sonic youth, pixies, green river, mudhoney, melvins, etc before them

jane's addiction is alt rock but not really grunge at all IMO

Agreed - re: Neil Young, but can also go back further to Velvet Underground as the true alternate creators...

Jane's BTW made up the early 80's LA scene with Chili Peppers & Fishbone...way before Nirvana formed. There was a legendary battle amongst recording studios to get them signed in 83-84.

Jane's Addiction formed in 85, Nirvana in 87

but JA is still not grunge

Grunge is crap anyway. Don't know why anyone cares. Just a bunch of guys who looked like they were allergic to soap, water or any concept of personal grooming taking the stage as though they just got off a shift at the gas station. No showmanship whatsoever. Lyrics mumbled into the mic so as to be incoherent accompanied by a wailing and screeching cacophony of guitars.

Of course, what took over from grunge was even worse: hip-hop.

And it followed guys would looks like girls and put makeup on, who followed guys in torn up clothes and pins and who could barely play any instruments, who followed guys in high heels and long hairs and beards who were high as the sky all the time, etc.

The only constants is that pretty much most rock acts have been allergic to soap and showers and have done heavy drug use.

"Just sitting around the house tonight w my dog. Felt like I should be doing something important, but couldn't put my finger on it."

.

I grew up in the 70s and 80s, but I don't know how someone cannot be mesmerized by the guitar rifts in a song like "Come as you are" or "All Apologies". Somehow the guitars sound a bit off tune or purposely detuned...but it was a great new sound. Not necessarily a new trick, but presented a different way.
