Hamilton Bulldogs 2013-2014

I think it's fair to assume that many of the people here don't know the numbers of all the players in Hamilton. I have no idea who #2 is.

How can they destroy him? Has that ever happened to any player?
Hope Beaulieu does well, but #2 is a tad bit more deserving (if that got anything to do with anything) of a call up.

It happens to plenty of players, but looking back at it one can always say that said players wasn't good enough after all. The reality is made of a lot of what-ifs. The same player, if drafted by different organizations, or if placed in different situations, could evolve in very different ways.

One of those rare tidy wins for the Dogs tonight over one of the best teams in the league. 4-1 over Grand Rapids. Scoring , good D and goaltending.

I know what you meant, just if a player was gonna be a NHL regular he will be and spending more time in AHL should be better (a la Wings patience (perceived/real?)).
And I just mean absolutely no player has even been negatively impacted by 'too-much' time in AHL..that I know of.
And those who don't like being demoted and say so, like Pacioretty, need to step it up in minors and show they are a cut above a bus-rider (as Bournival just did).
And I think just a myth about 'what if' he was given a real shot or more icetime he could of made it.

Will be interesting to see how Beaulieu reacts when sent back down this week? Hope he gets really pissed and goes globetrotters on some minor league opponents for final 3 games.
Dogs did very well vs Grand Rapids and 3 of 4 points vs defending champs was unexpected. I think Pateryn is now 2nd in AHL d-scoring, with 14 goals.

Zach hamill.

High draft pick... never got rushed.... was ultimately not good enough.

Was he left in the AHL too long? or just not good enough?

Hugh Jessiman.

There are more, many more.

I don't.

He's probably a fourth line player that will need to at least show he can play in the AHL before making it to the NHL. He hasn't exactly been lighting up the OHL.

I don't think we drafted him to "light it up." He seems like the kind of player who can contribute on 3rd or 4th line AND take care of meat-heads like Zack Rinaldo when called for.

But like it's been discussed time & time again, players who can't even produce in the CHL rarely make it in the NHL. The majority of 3rd/4th liners in the NHL who come from the CHL put up some kind of numbers. The only exception I can think of right now is Andrew Shaw.

Didn't Crisp have a good season in the OHL this year?

Did another Bergevin pick Andrew Shaw ever light it up in the CHL? Wasn't he an overager junior player who was drafted - can't remember? Another Bergevin pick (though he never played CHL) was Marcus Kruger - MB seems to have a history of fast tracking young, "character" bottom-9 players.

I see a lot of similarities in the role Crisp would play when compared to Shaw & Kruger - especially Shaw.

Yup. He was drafted after his last OHL season, got something like [edit: 23pts in 43 games] in the AHL, got called up and never went down. He, just like Alexandre Burrows to an extent, is an exception to the rule. The vast majority of third/fourth liners in the NHL put up numbers in the CHL. By numbers I mean a PPG or higher.

Kruger's situation is a little different. He was drafted when he was 18 and during his draft year, he was listed at 5'9" (He's currently listed at 6')and didn't do much in the SEL (although he did produce more than Sebastien Collberg did, but that's another story for another day...) during his draft year despite putting up numbers in the U20 league. The following two years, he exploded in the SEL and has moved to the Hawks' roster.

Didn't Crisp have a good season in the OHL this year?

Wasn't a PPG on a bad team. If he was in his third season in the OHL, I'd say it's not bad. But because it's his fourth (and in all likelihood his last) year, I like that he scored 28 goals, not so much that he wasn't PPG. And it's not like he was on a stacked team where he had to let more offensively oriented players get more ice time & PP time, his team stunk. I always have a hard time figuring out how someone who has a tough time being good in the CHL is going to suddenly make it in the NHL.

Just for kicks
Ryan White

last two years in junior
72GP 34G 55A 89PT
68GP 28G 44A 72PT

best year in the AHL
62GP 17G 17A 34PT

best year in the NHL
49GP 2G 4A 6PT

of course there are Moen's as well.....4th liners that are not good in the CHL or AHL...or NHL :p

Completely agree. If he can contribute a bit offensively and at the same time be a bit of a wingnut to keep the other teams honest that is a very good use of a 3/4 line roster spot. It takes all types to make a team, what is called team chemistry...

Yeah, Crisp is supposed to have a mean streak in him like his grandpa did.

Crisp i think could be a fourth liner.... He's not going to be a scorer, but he's got size, and skating and physicality.

I don't mind taking that type of player in the third round.

Also while yes it was his fourth OHL season technically, it was really his third as he missed almost an entire season (his draft year) with a shoulder injury (played only 6 games... 1 of which was an emergency appearance as a goalie). Also his 16 year old year, he started in Junior A before getting called up half way through the year.

Basically has only played 2.5 OHL seasons.

As for Sudbury, they weren't that bad a team... they led their division until the last week of the season when North Bay passed them. (Yes it was probably the weakest division in the OHL).... but they were an average OHL club... not bad.
