Hockey Media & Business Thread

true. We had a tolled bridge here and some would spend an extra 30 minutes to avoid it where I said, fuck it, it is only $5.00 and my hourly rate at the time was $400. My time is valuable

This year at WDW, I paid more for premier lightning lane to jump the line than my actual park tickets. While you can argue that it was wasted money, I didn't have to run from ride to ride, I didn't have to look at my phone for line lengths and just flashed my magic band, and voila, I was on the ride. There is a price to be paid for convenience.

You are also right, when they have tolls, you have a choice to use the road or not.
Yup but the traffic is ridiculous here so peace of mind and sanity plays a role in one’s decision

Do the players have grounds for a civil suit? i.e. disrupted careers and lost income?
This is all on Hockey Canada and their entitled culture for decades

They spent millions paying off victims to keep quiet

The board finally got fired but all they cared about was winning , similar to the Hawks situation years ago

I get the puck bunnies and players looking for some action stuff

Simply put for 2 weeks the executives should have put in strict orders to leave your dicks in your pants

Players seem to be invincible and now careers are on the line because they couldn’t control their urges

And, furthermore, because the people employed by Hockey Canada to act "in loco parentis" and make sure that things like this didn't happen didn't do their goddamn job. They just thought "Oh well. If anything goes wrong we'll just tap into that secret slush fund that we stole from parents who paid to register their kids in minor hockey to pay off whoever these little bastards decide to rape."

I understand that the people left in charge are supposed to ensure that the young men they oversee do not rape anyone.
You are just spouting crap on a term for which you do not understand. They were not in loco parentis. It was not your parents' responsibility to make sure your frat keggers didn't have bad shit than Hockey Canada was. She wanted to have coitus with hockey players, felt guilty afterward and got paid.

BTW Westhead has gone into hiding, hope he stays there.

They were in charge and they had a slush fund at the ready to make problems disappear, which proves that they knew these players were rapey. Instead of telling their players that HC had a zero tolerance policy for sexual assault, they decided to deal with it remedially by paying off the victims that THEY FUCKING KNEW would show up.

Hockey culture is toxic. It corrupts everyone who engages with it. Why my tax money goes to pay for any of it is an insult to me.

Again, you keep talking about legal x's and o's that no one gives a shit about. People dont care about legalities, they care about what's right and what's wrong. And they dont give a shit about "the law", they care about JUSTICE.

These players being judged not guilty is "the law". These players never cashing another NHL paycheque is as much "justice" as we dare hope for. Actual justice would be having them all do hard time but society will settle for having their careers ended.

You simply will not even consider that it was not sexual assault as it was consensual.

I hate how my tax money is used and you tell me tough tit. I don't like giving money to Khadr but I had to accept it.

If you find hockey culture that toxic, why do you still watch?

Harper is the reason Khadr had to be paid so complain to him.

I watch the games, but I dont participate in the culture, I dont make excuses for it, and if there's a backlash against that culture which winds up destroying the game I'll be fine with it because the fatal blow will have been self inflicted.

when you pay money and feed the beast, you are participating in the culture

if you hate it that much, you should boycott like you do travel to the US

Never had to cum to this , leave your cockus erectus in your pants for 2 weeks

The fired regime had decades to put an end to this entitlement

I dont hate hockey, I hate so-called "hockey culture" which is really more of a problem at levels below the pros. Pro hockey culture is a business culture. There's real money involved and the money always wins. If a player, through his off ice conduct, imperils the bottom line of the team he plays for or of the league he plays in, he is gone. Just ask Slava Voynov or Milan Lucic about that.

But in minor hockey, you have the worst of the worst. You have coaches who are frustrated former wannabe players and disciples of Don Cherry's misogynistic bullshit, who fill their players' heads with this toxic mix of resentment and entitlement. Then you have mediocre parents with delusions of grandeur pushing their kid to "be a man".

That culture is what turned both me and my parents away from continuing playing minor hockey and, as an adult, I've had occasion to watch minor hockey games involving my friends' kids and things have only gotten worse. Parents hurling abuse at teenage referees, coaches having to be ejected from games because of their shitty behavior behind the bench, fights in the parking lot between rival parents after games involving 12 year olds. Everything about minor hockey in this country is rotten. And none of it helps any kid become a pro or teach them how to behave like anything other than animals.

Water cooler chats with staff today about his topic

One member has an uncle who is self employed with 100+ staff

I asked him if he has a multi million dollar slush fund to pay off females when his reps whip out their dicks with other industry personnel and everyone has a camera

You cant put yourself in this position in todays world

Decades ago it was common for company/industry drunk or fuck fests at trade shows or inhouse hanky panky

Half of corporate North America would be in prison today with their actions

Unlike elite athletes, sales reps who behave badly are easily replaced. No need for a slush fund to keep them around. But elite level players live in a bubble of entitlement and huge sums of money are spent on keeping them safe from consequences.
