Only it is terrible. Kadri for an older, lesser, softer centre who the Oilers of all teams are so sick of at centre that they're trying him out on the wing, because he's even shittier at faceoffs than Kadri....oh, and he's significantly more expensive.

and that's awesome, but if anyone had suggested that we would get a recent 1st round pick and near ppg AHL'er Peter Holland for a kid who was in a rotation for the Marlies bottom pairing, the usual suspects would have chirped. Holland was, not long ago considered a better prospect than Kadri by some muppets.
 
He's a big time weapon though. A legit top line talent with a cup ring, making $5 mill for the next 3 years. Why the hell wouldn't we want to add a guy like that if he is available. Who exactly are you waiting to acquire that is a better defenseman than Byfuglien?

My ideal defensmen to acquire would be Bouwemester, he's an all around work horse who would fit great with Phaneuf on the top pairing and would allow Gunnar to drop down to the 2nd pairing. However, the odds of him even being available let alone us aquiring him is slim to nil, but yea he'd be my ideal blueliner to get.

Yeah, but that is my point. J-Bo isnt available. And neither is any other dman better than Byfuglien (which isn't that big of a list to begin with).

Does Byuglien even improve our backend though? I mean he's not great in his own end to begin with. If we're acquiring him as a winger that would be a different story, I'd gladly peg him in over a guy like Raymond.
 
Of course he improves our backend. He'd be our 2nd best dman pretty easily IMO.

He'd improve our team period. He'd be second on the Leafs in scoring overall right now.

Defense isn't about scoring, I'm talking about positonal play and play without the puck. Just because one can put up points from the backend doesn't make them good in their own end, just look at guys like Karlsson and Green who are great scoring but brutally defensively.
 
Buff's "issues" in his own end aren't helped by the fact that they have zero goaltending in Winnipeg.

That said i would have kept him at forward.
 
Karlsson and Green would also be our best or 2nd best dmen by quite a bit.

Who on the Leafs is as good as Buff besides Phaneuf? No one is really close at this point of their careers.

I think we're actually in agreement here! If he were on my team I'd play him on the wing, the dude has tremendous size and strength which would help with team cycling and improved boardwork.

Offensively they'd be our best blueliners, but defensively it wouldn't even be close! If Karlsson and Green were on the team I'd rank the following defensively: 1. Phaneuf 2. Gunnar 3. Gleason 4. Rielly 5. Karlsson 6. Gardiner 7. Greene
 
Just a hunch, but now that the Canadian Olympic Team auditions are all but over - I think that Phaneuf's game will open up and we'll see a tonne more shots/goals from the big guy.
