Leaf Rumours

Wow can't believe this thread fell to page 3 but

TSN Radio ‏@TSN1050Radio 16m

Darren Dreger tells TSN Drive that trading David Bolland is a "real" option for the Leafs

Highly doubt they move Bolland; unless Nonis knows he won't resign here and wants to get assets while he can

If true, that'd be stupid

The guys trade value is on the cutting room floor due to his serious injury, not a knock against Bolland just it is what it is. Secondly Bolland when healthy is IMO easily one of our best 2 way guys why would you want to get rid of him? Lets say we do trade him then who takes his spot? Mcclement.... just no, Mckegg IMO isn't ready yet, Holland maybe but he's still really inexperienced.

Not sure flipping him for a couple of picks is much of an option. The Leafs need to keep on an upward track and a winner like Bolland can help them do that.

I guess sticking point is they need to project how much Kadri will demand in 2015; at this point you have to think over $5 million and with Bozak already locked in, I don't think they want to hand out another 5 year deal in the $20 million plus range as thats what it will likely take to get Bolland

Yea would rather keep Bolland for playoffs and lose him for nothing then get a 2nd rounder out of him

This^^^^. Despite my views that Bolland should take the year off to recover, he's clutch in the playoffs and if (big if) he can get back to the way he normally plays in the playoffs we're in for a real treat here.

Re-signing Bolland worries me. He better not want more than 3 years.

true, that's the other side of it...if he wants big money/term then that probably isn't a good idea. With Bozak/Kadri/Holland/McClement we've at least got the 2-4 centre spots covered I think.

Just silly. Keep Bolland. If Bolland was on another team and being traded, we'd be one of the teams that should/could be interested as a rental. Plus the injury may very well help us cap wise and he's a hometown guy. Not seeing why he'd be traded at all...

The thing is based on the way the salary cap is and with us being locked in with most of our players and key players looking for a big long term extension I think our "win now" mode is on and the window isn't that big, I say we go all in and make the most of it.

What key big players would those be outside of Kadri and maybe Bernier?

Gardiner is coming up for a bit of a raise, Rielly in 2 years will be looking for a significant pay hike and that's on top of Kadri/Bernier. Bolland may not be the most skilled guy but he's defientley a key cog to the team as well who could demand as high as $4M a season.

I would not give Bolland more then a 3 year/$12 million dollar deal. If he is looking for more then I can see him walking on July 1st

Gardiner and Rielly are both still on entry level deals, their next contract won't be a large amount unless the Leafs buyout a portion of UFA years. TBH there is no real reason to be worried about Rielly's next contract when there are still 2 seasons left.
