Leaf Rumours

That Komarov enjoyed his time in Toronto and that's he's open to a return isn't news. But there was one interesting piece of new information in that article:

The other obvious factor in his decision to leave was money. Komarov is currently earning $2-million from Dynamo Moscow – more than twice what the Leafs were offering – and doesn’t have to pay Canada’s higher income tax rates or contribute to escrow while in Russia.

So, $2M tax and escrow-free is what he's making in Russia. Since he's having the best KHL season of his career and is second on the team in scoring, you have to figure they'll be offering him a raise after this season as well, which means the Leafs would probably be looking at a starting point of $3-3.5M per season to lure Komarov back here.

So, if they were in fact only willing to offer him something in the $1M range, I'd say the chances of him coming back here are pretty much nil, unfortunately. Unless Nonis has a change of heart, or if Komarov loved it here so much he's willing to leave a lot of money on the table.

KOmarov is not worth anywhere close to 3.5 million.

Max would be 2 million in my mind and even that is a bit much.

At 3.5 we can possibly sign Steve Ott.

I don't want Komarov at all.

Yes, he seemed to get under other players' skins, but that's not enough to warrant a return.

I would much rather have younger guys with potential and making peanuts in that role, like Ashton and D'Amigo.

Ill disagree with the above, as i feel KOmarov is something we definitely missing this season. It doesnt have to be him, but someone along the lines of what he did last year.

I think when its all said and done, Clarkson will take over that role but end up doing it better. And if i am going to be paying anywhere close to 3, get me Steve Ott to fill out that 3rd line.

Ott - Bolland - Clarkson

best 3rd line in hockey.

Lovely 4th line hockey player that does just about everything you want from a 4th liner. If we can get him in the 1.75 million range, I'd be cool with that for what he brings.

Komarov is such a piece of shit. He's like Corson and Green. They aren't that good, but throw them out there and they run around like idiots, flying all over the place and hitting everything. And that goes right to the legs of the rest of the team.

I take him on my team any day. $3 mill is an overpayment, but I'd rather have Komarov for $3 than Clarkson for $5.

Yep.

I've still never seen anything like it. Tucker was a loon and pissed people off. I've seen Matt Cooke in action being a scumbag. Those guys are all unhinged and dirty at times. Komarov is as clean as your Sunday best, but constantly has opposition losing their ****ing minds, chasing him around the ice trying to get revenge on him. He just finishes every check, hard, and targets your best players with every hit.

I would love to get Komarov back and would be willing to offer a pretty good deal for him. Something around 8mil over 4 year (2 per year), with the cap going up i think this is something we can afford to do and will really help the PK and stop the no effort games.

The guy has some skill as he has shown this year and i see no reason why he can't develop into a good 3rd line player who is annoy as hell to play against, hits everything that moves, is responsible defensively, and can chip in 30pts.

If he'd play for Orr's contract, ok. but really, he's not worth more than that. I could care less what he makes in Russia, good for him.

Not sure if I buy the logic here. Orr is worth Orr's contract. Komarov is a significantly, significantly better hockey player. Komarov is an excellent 4th liner who you can slot in on the 3rd line when necessary. That's easily worth 1.5-1.75 millie a year.

Orr shouldn't be in the league. he's not worth any contract in my opinion.

sure Komarov is better than Orr...big deal. He's still a dime a dozen plug, a funny character etc but a plug nonetheless with zero upside.

you guys complain about lack of skill on the 4th line but you still polish Komarov's knob.

would I rather him than Orr/McLaren, yes. but that's a pretty low bar.

Not sure about no skill. He's agitator, can skate, can hit, can kill penalties and isn't a defensive liability.

Been said a heap on here that it's hard to find someone who plays like he does that doesn't take penalties.

He's not useless. Would rather have him then mcclement to be honest. Both are not offensively gifted, but will take the agitator and relentless forechecking over the ability to win faceoffs as a 4th line guy who can move up to the 3rd line if necessary.

I'd love to see Komarov back in the Leafs lineup. He'd probably develop into a great third line aggravator. I'd say he's worth at least $1.5M per year.

Having Komarov on his wing for much of the year didn't seem to stop Kadri-XXXX from producing.

Would love to bring him back, but yeah, no more than $2 mill/per. We miss his shit-disturbing.
