Leaf Rumours

Players the Leafs want to acquire always have their value go up. What was the going rate on Nash for the Leafs? 2 First, Kadri, Gardiner to start negotiations?

Pavelski's been a 60-65pt player his whole career, but of course he'd now command the price of an MVP candidate.

13/14: 59gms, 75pt pace
12/13: 48gms, 53pt pace
11/12: 82gms, 61pt pace
10/11: 74gms, 73pt pace
09/10: 67gms, 62pt pace
08/09: 80gms, 61pt pace
07/08: 82gms, 40pt pace
06/07: 46gms, 50pt pace

he's been a little ahead of of Bozak most of his career.

1st year:

Pavelski (22): 46gms, 14gls, 28pts (82gms, 25gls, 50pts)
Bozak (23): 37gms, 8gls, 27pts (82gms, 18gls, 60pts)

2nd year:

Pavelski (23): 82gms, 19gls, 40pts (82gms, 19gls, 40pts)
Bozak (24): 82gms, 15gls, 32pts (82gms, 15gls, 32pts)

3rd year

Pavelski (24): 80gms, 25gl, 59pts (82gms, 26gls, 61pts)
Bozak (25): 73gms, 18gls, 47pts (82gms, 20gls, 53pts)

4th year

Pavelski (25): 67gms, 25gls, 51pts (82gms, 31gls, 62pts)
Bozak (26): 46gms, 12gls, 28pts (82gms, 21gls, 50pts)

5th year

Pavelski (26): 74gms, 20gls, 66pts (82gms, 22gls, 73pts)
Bozak (27): 36gms, 12gls, 32pts (82gms, 27gls, 73pts)

In hypothetical trade negotiations, Leaf players always have the approximate value of dog shit according to other teams' fans. Nothing ever changes.

I wouldn't trade Kadri or Rielly straight up for Pavelski, personally.

Me either. He's almost 30.

Pavelski is the type of player that you give up decent salaried player + B prospect + 1st for, if you're drafting in the 2nd half of the 1st round.

Very nice, solid ~60 point a year guy. Signed to a decent, but not great contract, and in his prime, but not young.

Somehow this thread was on the 3rd page.

Anyway, does anyone think the Islanders would be dumb enough to trade Hamonic for Franson, plus?

Just posting an Eklund rooomer, but we could speculate... Lupul? (please be clarkson, please be clarkson)

On the Leafs...

Talked to a source just now who confirmed that the St. Louis Blues and Toronto Maple Leafs have had trade discussions in the last few days regarding "a deal that would see the team swapping top six forwards and a prospect."

The source told me the Blues are looking for "added speed and scoring touch" and the Leafs have been talking to few teams now regarding toughness and some playmaking ability.

I could be wrong but haven't the Blues had an interest in Kadri for the last while now? He''s a top 6 player who brings speed and skill... just sayin

The only guy who fits that bill on the Blues top 6 is Backes, who plays centre. That would cause some interesting issues if it doesn't involve a centre going the other way. If that were Bozak, I'd be a pretty happy guy.

Of course, any time I hear about a Toronto-St. Louis deal, I get images of the Leafs GM bending over to take a stiff one.

It might make sense given them picking up Stastny in the offseason. Bozak would slide in nicely as a second line centre for them. Backes would bring some needed size, toughness and two way play to our top line.

If the Blues are ditching their Captain, they are selling high and will reap a fine reward. Backes is due to start breaking down anytime.

If I were St.Louis I'll definitely ask for Kadri. And combine that with the Kyperous rumor where Nonis has been taking up offers on Kadri, it makes a lot of sense.

Trading Kadri would be a mistake unfortunately, especially if it's Backes who's coming back. Backes is a 25G 55 points center, nothing special about him, but his reported 'intangibles' could easily get Nonis & Co., similar to how they went for the Gunnar for Polak trade (and threw in $$ too .... ). I don't necessarily hate Polak, but you shouldn't have to overpay for 'role players'. Not to mention, Kadri is 23 and Backes is 30. That's 7 years of difference and it's huge. The style Backes play I expect his body to start breaking down right about now.

Anyways I hope it isn't true. Any trade that bring us a second line center with ~ 50-60 points production makes no sense at all. If the Leafs trade for a center it would only make sense if we trade for a true #1 center, or a prospect with potential to be a #1 center and not another #2 center to go with Bozak.
