Leafs' Prospect/Marlies Discussion Thread!

What’s the problem with a draft full of Scott Laughtons?
Laughton is 4’7

These are all longbois. It’s like a Masai draft. They took some kid from China who has only played hockey for six months, a Slovenian and a black kid and just wait till you see their reaches.

Also think I like the nansi pick. His skating is atrocious but he’s big and strong on the puck and makes smart plays with it.

But all their scouting reports are good hockey iq, ultra competitive, suck at hockey.
Ya but you can br a decent low skill nhler if you’re 6’4. Not if you’re small.

Also unfortunately Laughton is a lot more skilled than these guys.

If they were going to draft like they did, they should’ve packaged all their picks and sent them out for a late first or something. I don’t think bad at hockey at 18 is something that can be worked on and make a guy an NHLer.

Maple Leafs have invited defenseman Owen Conrad to attend their development camp.

The Stellarton, Nova Scotia defenseman has played the last two seasons for the Charlottetown Islanders of the QMJHL and went undrafted despite being ranked in the 150-155 range on mock drafts

Conrad is a 6’3, 214 lb blue liner who has 123 games played in the QMJHL posting 13 goals, 55 points on his junior career.

How good is Haymes? Wasn’t he supposed to be a decent prospect with NHL upside? Haven’t seen anything on him lately.

2gls/6pts in his 9gms with the marlies.

only played 2gms and limited minutes in the playoffs tho.

Guys who definitely graduate to pro this year: F E.Cowan, D N.Chadwick

I believe McCue and Holinka are also pro eligible this year due to age, but i'm not 100% on that. (Leafs could decided to sign overager Lisowsky but they passed on that last year.)

I think Joe Miller might be ready to move on from NCAA but i don't know if he's in the leafs picture anymore. I don't think any of the euros are guys they want to bring over yet, hopefully Johansson gets to the SHL this year on more of a fulltime basis.

F T.Voit and D C.Sharpe could make the fulltime jump from the ECHL to the AHL too, though Voit looks like a lost cause tbh. Sharpe is interesting tho.

And for the other jump, hopefully Villeneuve has a good summer and kicks the door in. He's the only Marlie I see being any potential use for us this year aside from Hildy as the #3G

I'm hopeful on Haymes too. And they seem to like Quillan, at least defensively. And you'd hope that their boy Webber shows something this year at age 24.

Some of these late bloomer NCAA guys take weirdo routes to the league, so yeah maybe Quillian is something. Haymes a bunch younger, production looks kinda pedestrian, but again the undrafted NCAA guys are outlier weirdos to begin with.

McCue and Holinka will both turn 20 before December 31st, so can turn pro.
