Leafs' Prospect/Marlies Discussion Thread!

Tre making panic last minute deals is hilarious. He did that with Carlo after not even trying to get him prior to an hour before the deadline. Then did a panic last second deal for Laughton. And then almost did the same for Knies. It's a GM that has zero process or methodology to his "plans."

what was that report at the time?

something like "Brad is surprised he hasn't received any offers for laughton / roy / etc so with a couple hours left before the deadline he sent out a group email to all the GMs letting them know they were available".

And honestly it sounds like he tried to do the Knies thing because he was ashamed at the lack of futures they got in the deadline. It really sounds like he just wanted to flaunt the haul he got for Knies (and Roy and Laughton and McMann) to save face.

Definition of a reactionary GM with no grand plan or strategy. Also pig headed and ignorant of the advice of the most well funded analytics dept of any NHL team. If using the chess/checkers analogy, he was playing tic-tac-toe

As Shanny's puppet GM to start he likely came in with no plan, just do what daddy Shanny says, which ultimately was even more franchise damaging (losing Marner for essentially nothing) than the sum of Tre's moves. Then Shanny gets the boot and suddenly Pelley is relying on him to be the grand architect. In way over his head. He's like the Sobel character from Band of Brothers (it is June 6, after all).
