Leafs - Sens - Habs 2013-14

We would prob need to package Gardiner with someone to make contracts work. Either that or we get a guy on entry level contract.

Though i dont see us making our team worse this season.

The answer is no. The two defensemen that have been on the ice for the most 5 on 5 shots against are Cody Franson and Jake Gardiner.

Actually if you compare Dion to most of the top defenders you'd never guess he was playing on a team that has been historically bad for giving up shots against:

Karlsson 640
Suter 604
Subban 586
Yandle 585
Weber 578
Phaneuf 536
Keith 499
Ekman-Larsson 475
Chara 444
Pietrangelo 443
Bouwmeester 439

If you just put half the effort into your career as you do into finding random hockey stats, you'll be a millionaire in no time.

Well done.

Every time we see stats like this, it convinces me more and more than Dion is absolutely ****ing elite. On a team that gives up a lot of goals, Dion is on the ice for very few 5 on 5. On a team that gives up a ridiculous amount of shots, Dion is on the ice for far fewer than you would expect. He's matched up against top opposition ever night, obsessively by his coach. His zone starts are heavily skewed to defensive zone faceoffs (but his zone finishes suggest that when he's on the ice, the puck moves in the right direction a whole lot).

He's just a ****ing beast.

Yeah, to be honest, I didn't expect it to be that favourable compared to other top defensemen given how many shots we give up as a team.

I'm out on the moment and can't be assed to do it on my phone, but could someone rank those same Dmen via shots given up per 60 mins?

yeah none of the leafs dmen look good in shots against, which is ovbvious given our record settting pace.

SA per 60mn @ 5on5

Rielly 36.5
Franson 36.1

Ranger 35.1
Gleason 34.7

Phaneuf 33.9
Gunnar 33.6

Gardiner 33.5

Yeah, sure. Dion definitely takes a hit here since he's played the lowest 5 on 5 minutes of any of those guys. I still don't see any evidence to suggest he's to blame for our record high shots against totals though. His numbers seem pretty comparable to most top pairing guys and that's not even accounting for other factors like a high number of defensive zone starts, etc.

Pietrangelo 26.2
Bouwmeester 26.3
Chara 27.3
Keith 28.3
Suter 28.5
Ekman-Larsson 29.7
Weber 31.5
Subban 32.0
Yandle 33.0
Karlsson 33.1
Phaneuf 33.8

Fuggin' Sens get shelled for 7 goals on another afternoon game - hate hate hate that time frame.

How can one team come out so flat every time they have to drop the puck before 7pm? Mind boggling.

Habs lost both their afternoon games last weekend. They suck in early games too. Of course they lost both 2-1.

it has nothing to do with the time frame.
