Bulldogs double up Moose, 4-2

WINNIPEG, MB - The Hamilton Bulldogs snapped their five-game losing skid with a 4-2 win over the Manitoba Moose on Friday night at the MTS Centre. The win improves Hamilton's record to 9-12-0-5 on the season.

The Moose opened the scoring at 5:16 of the first period when Colby Genoway tallied an unassisted marker. Genoway jumped on a loose puck, broke into the Bulldogs zone and beat netminder Jaroslav Halak with a wrist shot to the glove side.

Hamilton responded with two goals in the remainder of the opening frame to take a 2-1 lead. Corey Locke got the 'Dogs on the scoreboard at the 7:33 mark, banging home the rebound of a Duncan Milroy shot to pick up his seventh goal of the season. Then with just 12 seconds left in the period, defenceman Joel Bouchard scored on the power play to make the score 2-1. Marvin Degon and Matt D'Agostini earned assists on Bouchard's first goal as a Bulldog.

At 3:53 of the second period, Janne Lahti extended the Bulldogs lead to 3-1 with his fourth goal of the season. Eric Manlow and Pavel Valentenko drew helpers on the lone goal of the middle stanza.

Zack FitzGerald pulled Manitoba within a goal at 7:26 of the third period with his second tally of the campaign. Greg Classen and Shaun Heshka picked up assists on the 3-2 goal.

With only five seconds remaining in the game, Milroy chipped in an unassisted empty-net goal to seal the 4-2 win for the Bulldogs. The goal was Milroy's sixth of the season.

Hamilton won the special teams battle in the game, going 1-for-3 on the power play and a perfect 5-for-5 on the penalty kill. Between the pipes, Halak stopped 21 of 23 shots to earn the win for the Bulldogs, while Drew MacIntyre made 21 saves on 24 shots in a losing effort for the Moose.

With a goal in the first period, Corey Locke (62-115-177) took sole possession of second place on the Bulldogs' all-time scoring list, passing Tomas Plekanec (71-105-176). Locke now needs three points to overtake Brain Swanson (71-108-179) and become Hamilton's all-time leading scorer.

Bulldogs edged by Moose in OT

WINNIPEG, MB - Despite out-shooting the Manitoba Moose 32-22, the Hamilton Bulldogs dropped a 3-2 decision in overtime on Saturday night at the MTS Centre. With the overtime loss, the ‘Dogs earn a point and take three of a possible four points in their two-game set in Manitoba. At the Christmas break, Hamilton's record is 9-12-1-5 through 27 games.

Hamilton opened the scoring at 14:21 of the first period courtesy of Duncan Milroy's seventh goal of the season. Milroy tipped Jean Philippe Cote's shot from the point past Manitoba's Drew MacIntyre to make the score 1-0.

With two goals in the second period, the Moose took a 2-1 lead. On the power play, Milan Gajic registered his first goal of the season at the 1:26 mark to even the score 1-1. Zack FitzGerald then notched his third tally of the campaign at 2:50 of the frame to give Manitoba a one-goal lead.

The Bulldogs responded at 16:18 of the middle stanza when Daniel Corso, playing in his first game with Hamilton, scored his first goal of the season and as a Bulldog to make the score 2-2. Francis Lemieux earned the lone assist on Corso's goal.

After a scoreless third period, Nathan McIver posted his second goal of the season with just 23 seconds remaining in overtime to lift the Moose to a 3-2 win. Greg Classen and Ryan Shannon drew helpers on McIver's game-winning goal in the extra frame.

Hamilton was 0-for-4 on the power play while Manitoba went 1-for-6 with the man advantage.

Between the pipes, Halak stopped 19 of 22 shots in a losing effort for the Bulldogs, while Drew MacIntyre made 30 saves on 32 shots to pick up the win for the Moose.

Bulldogs Defeat Moose

HAMILTON, ON - Jaroslav Halak turned aside 32 of the 33 shots he faced to lead the Hamilton Bulldogs to a 3-1 win over the Manitoba Moose on Thursday night at Copps Coliseum. The win gave Hamilton five of a possible six points in their three-game set versus Manitoba, and improved the 'Dogs record to 10-12-1-5 on the season.

Hamilton jumped out to a 1-0 lead at 12:31 of the first period when Ryan Russell potted his first-career American Hockey League goal and point. Jonathan Ferland and Marvin Degon each earned an assist on the goal.

Manitoba evened the score 1-1 exactly 56 seconds into the middle frame when Mike Keane scored his third goal of the season on a breakaway. Jimmy Sharrow drew the lone helper on Keane's goal.

The Bulldogs took a 3-1 lead with two second-period goals just 63 seconds apart. At 14:30 of the frame, Mathieu Aubin registered his first tally of the campaign when he fired in a rebound over the shoulder of Moose netminder Drew MacIntyre. Hamilton then scored their third goal of the game at the 15:33 mark courtesy of Mathieu Biron's first goal of the season. Pavel Valentenko and Corey Locke earned assists on Biron's power-play goal.

There was no scoring in the third period as the Bulldogs held on for a 3-1 win.

Locke's assist in the second period was his 179th (62-117-179) career point as a Bulldog, tying him with Brian Swanson (71-108-179) as Hamilton's all-time leading scorer.

Three Bulldogs (Russell, Aubin and Biron) collected their first goals of the season in the game. The Bulldogs went 1-for-4 with the man advantage and a perfect 6-for-6 on the penalty kill.

The defending Calder Cup Champion Hamilton Bulldogs return to action tomorrow night (Friday, December 28th) when they travel to Blue Cross Arena in Rochester to take on the Americans.

Toronto Marlies use three-goal first period to earn 4-3 win over Hamilton

HAMILTON - Kris Newbury and Alex Foster each had a goal and an assist as the Toronto Marlies rode a three-goal first period to a 4-3 victory over the Hamilton Bulldogs on Saturday night in the AHL.

John Mitchell and Robbie Earl gave the Marlies (22-5-0-4) an early 2-0 lead and Justin Pogge made it stand with a 23-save performance as Toronto extended its point streak to seven games. Bryan Muir chipped in with three assists in the victory.

Marvin Degon and Eric Manlow countered for the Bulldogs (10-14-1-5), who have lost two in a row. Jaroslav Halak stopped 28 shots in defeat.

At least we can seem to beat you guys in the AHL, haha. :smilewinkgrin:

How's David Fischer been doing this year for the record? I really liked Montreal's selection of him in the 2006 draft. You guys got a steal there.
 
Last I really heard of him was when I saw him at the Habs's rookie development camp. He was the best player there.
