Les Habitants Prospects Thread

not really liking weber stats

Certainly not the same guy we saw last year. He's trying to play a more physical game and just doesn't have the size. He's third in scoring -17 points, of the dmen behind Subban -26 and Benoit -18, although Benoit has been riding shot gun with Subban for the last month or so. I'm sure he and Carle both know they've dropped down the depth chart with Subban's arrival.
Interesting last night Subban was benched for most of the 1st period for getting into Boucher's dog house at practice. Haven't seen an AHL coach with the balls to do that to the big prospect in quite awhile. Good on Boucher.

Peteri Simila is heading home.

http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/juniors/2010/01/12/king_chl_deadline/#

Finnish goaltender Petteri Simila, who was acquired as part of the Pietrangelo trade with Niagara, will head home. Dalton McGrath, who had been Di Salvo's backup, will join a Colts affiliate team.

It's probably for the best. He didn't play much and a draft eligible goalie was playing ahead of him. He'll be going back to Finland to be able to more games, which should be good for him.

I'm pretty sure he's eligible, but there's no space for him.

Our AHL team in Hamilton has no space with both Desjardins & Sanford doing very well.

Our ECHL team in Cincinnati has no space because it's a split organization between Montreal & Nashville, who have Robert Mayer, free agent we signed after the 2008 training camp and Jeremy Smith, 2007 2nd round pick there fighting it out for minutes.

So it's better that he spends time in Finland in one of the Junior leagues where he can get plenty of starts. Plus we don't have to sign him right away. We can let him develop at his own pace.

Yeah, I know there's no room, I was just curious if a European who played in the CHL would be eligible. I thought he would be because there was some talk of Sergei going to Hamilton instead of playing his final year in Junior. And I know Halak was quite young when he played in the ECHL (I got to see him live a couple times).

Gabriel Dumont had a four goal game tonight and now has 30 goals this year.

Gabriel Dumont is really interesting.

He's undersized at 5'9, but he's at 30 goals in 40 games and has a +21 rating. I can't wait to see how he'll do in the AHL. He was drafted as a Guy Boucher player, it was obvious the day it happened.

39gp 26g 29a 55pts 81PIM

pretty good

this must not be up to date yet....so 30 goals, 29 assists, 59 points in 40 games

but ya...a bit on the short side

Might soon be time to give Trotter a shot on the big club -- 41 points in 41 games.

And it's really too bad Desharnais is so small -- 37 points in 29 games.

Both in the league's top 15 scorers.

Desharnais deserves a shot a the bigs one day or another, he's been burning the league at every level he's been. He reminds me of Martin St.Louis. He's just very effective on the ice.

To add to that, next year will be interesting. We have a lot of RFA's in Hamilton that we'll need to resign. Trotter, Desharnais, Pyatt, Carle, Belle, Wyman, Stewart... I could easily see us giving up on Belle & Stewart to make place for the new wave of players next year and see if Trotter/Desharnais can stick in next year's training camp, at the risk of losing them via waivers.

Yeah.

If Desharnais was just two inches taller, he'd probably be an everyday NHLer already.

Unfortunately, two inches taller for him is still only 5'9. He's a long shot but he plays big for his size and finds way to get the job done.
