Bulldogs' Comeback Falls Short In Shootout

HAMILTON, ON - With two goals in a span of 10 seconds in the third period, Maxim Lapierre set a franchise record for the fastest two goals by one player, but the Hamilton Bulldogs dropped a 3-2 decision in a shootout to the Syracuse Crunch on Friday night at Copps Coliseum.
The Crunch opened the scoring at 4:56 of the first period when Tom Sestito tipped home his first goal of the season. Derick Brassard and Bruno St. Jacques drew assists on the power-play marker.
Syracuse increased its lead at 17:24 of the second period courtesy of Andrew Murray's fifth goal of the campaign. The lone assist on the goal went to Joakim Lindstrom.
At the 1:08 mark, Lapierre broke in on the right side and fired a wrist shot to the top corner to make the score 2-1. Lapierre then evened the score 2-2 when he flipped a backhand shot into the open cage at 1:18 of the frame. Duncan Milroy and Joel Bouchard, who earned his first two points as a Bulldog on the goals, each recorded two assists on the scoring plays.
After a scoreless overtime, the game was forced to a shootout. The Bulldogs converted on two of five shootout attempts, but the Crunch went 3-of-4 in the shootout to earn the 3-2 win. Corey Locke and Duncan Milroy were the shootout scorers for Hamilton while Derick Brassard, Joakim Lindstrom and Derek MacKenzie tallied for Syracuse.
The Bulldogs were 0-for-7 with the man advantage and 7-for-8 on the penalty kill.
Between the pipes, Jaroslav Halak made 25 saves on 27 shots for Hamilton in the shootout loss, while Adam Munro made 29 saves on 31 shots for Syracuse and picked up the win.
The defending Calder Cup Champion Hamilton Bulldogs return to action tomorrow night (Saturday, November 3rd) at 7:35 p.m. when they visit the Rochester Americans at Blue Cross Arena.

- ROCHESTER, NY – The Hamilton Bulldogs were shutout 3-0 by the Rochester Americans on Saturday night at the Blue Cross Arena. Hamilton’s record now drops to 4-5-0-2 through 11 games so far this season.
After a scoreless opening period, Rochester tallied the game’s first goal at 10:42 of the middle stanza when David Brine notched a shorthanded marker. ‘Dogs netminder Yann Danis stopped the initial shot from Tanner Glass but the puck took a strange bounce off the end boards and Brine was there to bang in the rebound into the empty net.
The Americans doubled their lead 2-0 courtesy of Clarke MacArthur’s AHL leading eighth goal of the season at 4:41 of the third period. Ryan Globke and Dylan Hunter earned assists on the goal.
Hamilton’s Corey Locke was awarded a penalty shot at 12:53 of the final frame but goaltender Adam Dennis turned him aside to remain perfect in the game for Rochester.
At 14:32 of the third stanza, Anthony Stewart rounded out the game’s scoring with his fourth tally of the campaign. Marc-Andre Gragnani and Marek Zagrapan drew helpers on the Amerks’ 3-0 goal.
Between the pipes, Danis stopped 30 of 33 shots in a losing effort for the ‘Dogs, while Dennis stopped all 22 of the shots he faced to earn the shutout win for the Amerks.
The Bulldogs were 0-for-4 on the power play and surrendered a shorthanded goal but were a perfect 7-for-7 on the penalty kill in the game.

It's weird how quickly things change in the AHL. I never would've guessed after last year that the Bulldogs would be struggling like this. My brother was a Bulldogs STH last year so I heard a lot about them from him.
