Bulldogs' Comeback Falls Short In Shootout

HAMILTON, ON - With two goals in a span of 10 seconds in the third period, Maxim Lapierre set a franchise record for the fastest two goals by one player, but the Hamilton Bulldogs dropped a 3-2 decision in a shootout to the Syracuse Crunch on Friday night at Copps Coliseum.
The Crunch opened the scoring at 4:56 of the first period when Tom Sestito tipped home his first goal of the season. Derick Brassard and Bruno St. Jacques drew assists on the power-play marker.
Syracuse increased its lead at 17:24 of the second period courtesy of Andrew Murray's fifth goal of the campaign. The lone assist on the goal went to Joakim Lindstrom.
With two goals in ten seconds at the start of the third period, Maxim Lapierre set a franchise record for the fastest two goals by one player, surpassing Michel Riesen who scored two goals in 35 seconds on February 21st, 2001 at Hershey.
At the 1:08 mark,
Lapierre broke in on the right side and fired a wrist shot to the top corner to make the score 2-1.
Lapierre then evened the score 2-2 when he flipped a backhand shot into the open cage at 1:18 of the frame. Duncan Milroy and Joel Bouchard, who earned his first two points as a Bulldog on the goals, each recorded two assists on the scoring plays.
After a scoreless overtime, the game was forced to a shootout. The Bulldogs converted on two of five shootout attempts, but the Crunch went 3-of-4 in the shootout to earn the 3-2 win. Corey Locke and Duncan Milroy were the shootout scorers for Hamilton while Derick Brassard, Joakim Lindstrom and Derek MacKenzie tallied for Syracuse.
The Bulldogs were 0-for-7 with the man advantage and 7-for-8 on the penalty kill.
Between the pipes,
Jaroslav Halak made 25 saves on 27 shots for Hamilton in the shootout loss, while Adam Munro made 29 saves on 31 shots for Syracuse and picked up the win.
The defending Calder Cup Champion Hamilton Bulldogs return to action tomorrow night (Saturday, November 3rd) at 7:35 p.m. when they visit the Rochester Americans at Blue Cross Arena.
