Glad to see David Desharnais doing well:

Le meilleur marqueur de la ECHL la saison dernière, avec 106 points dans l'unifor me des Cyclones de Cincinnati, se retrouve au centre du quatrième trio avec le dur à cuire Ryan Flinn et Ryan White. Ça ne l'empêche pas d'être le troisième meilleur marqueur des Bulldogs avec trois buts et six mentions d'aide en 11 rencontres.

He's even signed a 2-year deal today !:

I'm telling you, this diminutive kid is dynamite and the day when he makes it to the NHL is not far from us.

I guess the Habs were afraid to see him sign an NHL contract with another team since he was only signed to an AHL contract before yesterday.

This is really good news for him and a great story.

I'm sure talk will start soon about him playing at wing.

Update on PK Subban.....
I had a job fair yesterday at the Bulls arena yesterday and our lunch was served in a box suit with a pleasant view of the Bulls practice. A few things on PK.

1) He has a deadly accurate shot, watched him for about 20 minutes shoot from the blue line at a net face down. He would walk across the blue line adn hit the cross-bar consistently.
2) Skating drills were cool, as it really shows he has quick feet
3) Then he was horsing around with a bunch of other players he is a real joker yelling out all sorts of things, some appropriate some not.

Overall this kids continues to impress me, and I would not be surprised to see him with Hamilton following the Bulls season. The way I see it he is probably 2 seasons away from making the team.

I think Rolex was being funny...or at least tyring to be.
Well... if that's the case i will be forced to admit defeat and concede that Rolex's peculiar sense of humour is out of my spiritual reach.

Please get me a double-double XPO so i can drown my sorrow.

AHL: Who Let The Dogs Out

The Hamilton Bulldogs are off to a great start and are getting significant production from several of their first-year pro players. McKeen's correspondent David Burstyn has notes on three of them including Ben Maxwell, Yannick Weber and 2007 first round draft pick Max Pacioretty.

Ben Maxwell (Mtl), C, Hamilton
Hampered by injuries in his final two seasons of junior, Maxwell is among four new rookies playing their first year pro with the Bulldogs .. sluggish in appearance, his skating is deceptively fast, as he lost no footraces in the entire contest .. played a strong game down low, using his balance and strength on his skates to dig out loose pucks and play a good positional game along the boards .. has a good set of hands and an ok shot but has generated many of his chances by sheer will and his uncanny hockey sense .. has found the back of the net with consistent regularity, as he is averaging close to a point a game in the team's first 10 contests .. has been using his size more in open areas of the ice, as he constantly pumps his feet and makes the simple play .. coming along nicely and learning to play away from the puck under the tutelage of Don Lever, which should help his NHL chances.

Max Pacioretty (Mtl), LW, Hamilton
Former first round selection in 2007 has managed to find the net in recent games, as he is multi-purpose forward with a myriad of skills .. his hand skills and playmaking ability especially down low give the Bulldogs a legitimate second-line scoring threat .. his skills are apparent and like any rookie adjusting to the pro game it is difficult, however Pacioretty appears well on his way .. he is patient in most cases and protects the puck well .. his skating allows him to keep up and manufacture offence on the fly .. he needs to bulk up in his upper body to be a more physical force .. can wander defensively and needs to eliminate some poor habits he has developed .. he is a skilled skater, blessed with speed and a tight turning radius .. his development has been accelerated by the strong supporting cast around him but it should not take long for him to carry a line and produce strong numbers.

Yannick Weber (Mtl), D, Hamilton
Struggled through an average Memorial Cup but redeemed himself with a successful Montreal training camp and is among the top four defensemen in Hamilton .. young but plays with poise and experience that belly his age, as he is the youngest on the team .. mindful of when to jump into the offence and has been making intelligent decisions that leave him in steady positions curbing his offence-first-type-of-mentality .. defensively, he has improved cutting down the angles and using his effective stop and starts to force opponents to the outside .. has not been thrust into offensive situations yet, as he is on the second PP unit but coach Lever is aware of his QB skills .. maturing into a viable option for the Canadiens organization – an organization that is already blessed with a surplus of capable defensemen.

Don't like to do this, but it's an excellent game report.

Compliments of Qui Gon Dave over at HF, their resident Bulldogs games specialist.

SNIPPETS:

Good win for the Dogs tonight 5-2 over the Marlies with Chip, Stewart and Patches the three stars. Denis was good too. More details after the Habs game.

Edit:

1st period

- Lehoux had a nice chance early on with a backhand shot but couldn't score....
Chipchura from Stewart and Henry, 1-0.
- Chipchura nearly got a 2nd during a 4 on 4 stretch, tried a wraparound which forced a big save from Pogge.
- D'Agostini continues to score. Dogs were on a PP and got it right this time, a point shot tipped in the middle forced Pogge to give up a short rebound. D'Ago was on it instantly at the top of the crease and shot it into the empty side while Pogge was down. D'Agostini from Pacioretty and Carle on the PP, 2-0.

2nd period

- Denis made a huge glove save about a minute later on a shot from the near side circle.
- Dogs got the 2 goal lead back after Jancevski took a point shot which Maxwell tipped and Pogge gave up another rebound to the slot on. Stewart was there to put it in the open side of the net. Stewart from Maxwell and Jancevski, 3-1.

-3rd period

http://hfboards.com/showthread.php?t=568158&page=3

- Pacioretty showed some skill with a sick move to beat a Dman and then I'm not sure if he lost the puck or made a soft pass, but Glumac skated onto it and his shot had just enough power to get by Pogge and over the line. Glumac from Pacioretty and Maxwell, 4-2.
- Chipchura finished the scoring which he started, firing a wrist shot through a screen (maybe Stewart) as he skated across Pogge's view of Chip. Chipchura from Aubin and Russell, 5-2.

Cool stuff. Some of our Baby Habs coming along fine.

For those who don't know it, Kyle Chipchura was formally named Captain a few games and and has had 2 very strings games since.

A large excerpt from the Hockey's Future article by Guy Flaming:

During USA’s 5-3 round robin win over Canada East, Kristo was at the top of his game netting a pair of goals and adding and assist as well. Emotionally he was definitely into the game but perhaps went overboard as he engaged in a showboating feud with Canada’s bench that escalated with each goal.

Eventually both benches were warned by the referee to get back to sportsmanship and coach Carlson replied by having a one-sided heated exchange with Kristo. Asked afterwards about Kristo, the coach explained his side of things.

“We have to remember that these are young kids and they’re learning. He got a little emotional there so we had a little conversation and I let him know that it’s unacceptable and that it's not how we want to behave as a team,” Carlson said. “We’ve only been together here as a team for three or four days so I’m just getting to know Danny. I certainly appreciate his passion and when he learns to channel that he’s only going to be that much better of a player.

”Kristo was also asked about that part of the game.

“It just gets competitive out there and we were just jawing back and forth, nothing personal, but you just get fired up,” he said while comparing it to trash talking you’d hear on any basketball court. “After the game you let it go. It’s just part of hockey.”

When it came to what was said to him by the coach, Kristo played it a little closer to his chest.

“I don’t think I need to repeat everything, but I think I learned my lesson,” he smiled.

Kristo is now listed at 6’0 and 184 lbs and is never going to be confused with a power forward, but what he does exceedingly well is skate and create offense. A staple on the power play and noticeable by his constant stick tapping as he requests a pass, Kristo shows a lot of patience controlling the tempo and flow of the game in the offensive zone. A crisp passer with a quick and accurate shot of his own, he’s a dangerous opponent whenever he’s on the ice.
