Lou Lamoriello named Leaf GM

I like how Lou jumped back in and addressed the Dubas question that was asked of Shanahan.

Lou Lamoriello basically says Kyle Dubas is in position to eventually succeed him as #leafs GM. "If that doesn't happen it's his fault."

Probably the best thing to take out of this hiring and the Babcock one is Shanahan's ability to sell a plan/vision and convince people who thought no way in hell they were coming to Toronto... to come to Toronto.

Disappointed no one has asked him about the roster's makeup. Changed virtually nothing except trading their most skilled player.

I didn't even notice no one asked any roster questions...
 
Yeah, I think Shanahan danced around the question to be respectful to Lou but then Lou seemed to jump back in and confirm it.
 
This is quite a surprise. I have been very impressed with Shanahan and the Shanaplan so far, so I'm willing to buy in. Lou has a lot of experience, and I don't mind the idea of him mentoring a guy like Dubas (and/or Hunter). Decisions will still be made as a group, and it's good to have people with different points of view to determine the best course of action. Quite a mix between old-school and new-school in that room. And apparently Lou has been into analytics for a while, he may be old but he's not a dinosaur.
 
This is a great retirement gig for Lou. 3 years as a "GINO" (Gm In Name Only), then rides off into the sunset as a very well paid "Senior Advisor".
