Marc Bergevin: Post Mortem 2016/17 season

Re: Marc Bergevin: Post Mortem today 16h00

At some point Galchenyuk needs to show some moxie, become a responsible adult and impress those around him with desire & work ethic.
Why is everyone else always to blame for his failures, the people who drafted him gain no enjoyment in watching him fail - MB do any want to look like the moron he does for drafting him & proclaiming him their future 1C.
Why can't Galchenyuk earn his TOI by hard work & merit like Lekhonen has? Maybe he should spend less time snorting lines at Flygin and spend more time watching videos, being the last off the ice during practice & dedicating himself 24/7 - 365 to his profession?

We get it. You don't like him.

But the constant talk about him is making you look autistic.

I think MB will go all in. It's likely his last chance.

With what? We don't really the have cap space to go legit "all in." I could be wrong, but I don't think the "all in" with our resources will be good enough. We lack a lot of skill and scoring.

There could be some interesting developments with the expansion draft.

Now that its official that lists will be made available there's nothing stopping a GM from asking Vegas to draft a player so that he can complete a trade.

There may be some very interesting options made available for teams with cap space.

Re: Marc Bergevin: Post Mortem today 16h00

I find it stupid that we need to give Vegas a pick for them to take Pleks...

We were in no rush to sign a player like Pleks, on the downhill for some years now, to a 6 mil deal. I don't get this team's way of doing business...it's like they want to hit homeruns just to show how smarter than everyone else they are.

We wasted 3 years with Semin, Parenteau, Briere experiments....Bergy thinking they might help the top 6....it took him his 4th attempt to succeed with Radulov

Actually it may make a hell of a lot of sense for Vegas to take Plekanec...they will get a stable defensive 3rd line center to weather the defensive woes of a first year team.

But more importantly they get an asset in Pleks that is pending UFA and that will get them an asset at the trade deadline.

So they get a good vet for a year and likely a 2nd or 3rd rounder at the deadline

And even then... a fluke. Gave him 1 year deal only after Lucic turned us down.

You keep saying this... and I know we were "in" on Lucic, but any proof it actually happened this way?

He met with Radulov way before we knew about it.

Lucic told TSN on deadline day on air. Was offered more, intrigued to play with "the western boys" (Gallagher/Price/Weber).... but wanted to play close to home and with McDavid.

Re: Marc Bergevin: Post Mortem today 16h00

Oh I know all that, I more so mean the calling it a fluke and saying it only happened because Lucic turned us down.

He couldn't have had intentions of signing them both?

That's what I think...had he signed Lucic I think he would still have gone after Radulov

We did need two top six wingers

With what cap space? He had already acquired Shaw at the draft ($4m) . Lucic has a cap hit of $6m.

Also... we were not the only one bidding on Radulov.

You are giving MB too much credit.

That's the beauty of the off season.

You have time and flexibility to make things happen.

It's why I think we should all be more critical of MB when he doesn't address needs in the off season because it's extremely hard to address needs during the season, as we discovered this year.

I like how everyone keeps saying: ''don't you think that Bergevin knows he needs to improve center position....don't you think Bergy knows his teams' flaws....don't you think management knows this and that ''

There's a difference between knowing, and wanting to take the risk to do it.....

Subban-Weber was a sideways move at best. Bergy knows that Markov has 2 more years MAX.....and he knew 5 years ago that Markov wouldn't be a true #1-2 in 2017. This summer was not the time to go all in....it was 3 years ago, while Markov and Pleks still had game.

What he needs to do is not something you can wake up one day and say: '' ohhh let's find a #1 center''.....he should have been working on this 3 years ago, when it was obvious to us all that they didn't trust Chuckie.

Now he is just desperate, and we never win trades when you are desperate. Who will get gift us a #1 center just like that....lots of top 6 players have been traded in the past 5 years, just not to our team. That's inexcusable.....unless you wanna count Vanek, but he was a rental

Re: Marc Bergevin: Post Mortem today 16h00

Julien didn't dick around 22-yr old Bergeron or 21-yr old Krejci, could it be Galchenyuk's not all that?

Let's agree to disagree on philosophical differences - I'm a staunch believer in meritocracy, the cream always rises despite the odds.

As I tell my kids u are there to be seen not heard from, earn a full faculty scholarship to Harvard & u'll have earned the right to be heard, until that day.....nada.

He dicked around with Seguin however.

It's not about like or dislike - I'm not so much of a fanboy that I fail to recognize that he often appears lost without the puck, and the drive and determination needed at the NHL level at playoff time was simply not there. That's a black mark on Galchenyuk the player.

And yes, I think the Habs badly mucked up his development as a centre since entering the league as an 18-yr old.

Re: autism - I take it u will not be talking about Weber any longer?

What struck me yesterday too with regards to the questions about a top center is that once the debate about how hard it is to acquire one via trade came up again he threw in a new twist to the debate when he said that when you always draft in the 20's you're not gonna find that top center at that position.

So according to MB now it's impossible to acquire one via trade or UFA and now you can only draft one in you're getting a top 15 pick.

Re: Marc Bergevin: Post Mortem today 16h00

FWIW - Seguin himself said a couple of yrs back Julien was doing the right thing, it was he who couldn't handle the demands of a market like Boston.

And much like Kessel it was said that management didn't believe Seguin fit the "bruins model"

Give a lot of credit to Julien for what Marchand has become aslo, he's annoying as shit but man can this guy play the game
