Marc Bergevin: Post Mortem 2016/17 season

Re: Marc Bergevin: Post Mortem today 16h00

The honeymoon was over last year.

The honeymoon was over the day he humiliated respected journalist Philippe Cantin in front of his peers.

(mind you, I'm not a fan Cantin...but his peers quickly came to his defense).

Which incident was this?

Re: Marc Bergevin: Post Mortem today 16h00

Every time people asked him the questions regarding depth in farm team, development, he looked nervous.
Well, the farm team is still playing, so not like he can come out and say they're going to fire the coach there.

Re: Marc Bergevin: Post Mortem today 16h00

Cantin asked him a question and he responded by ''talking down'' to Cantin, as if to say Cantin you are stupid for asking such a question

Re: Marc Bergevin: Post Mortem today 16h00

MB is not some unaware buffoon. He's just a mediocre GM. He wants to win the Cup too, not just us.

Re: Marc Bergevin: Post Mortem today 16h00

But Bergevin/Therrien have to take the blame for screwing-up our only top 3 pick in decades.....the only top center we've drafted in decades.....a kid with talent, scored 30 goals while playing limited minutes under the Dolt....and these low IQ hockey minds decided that the likes of Pleks-Dano-Ott-Shaw were better fit to play center.
At some point Galchenyuk needs to show some moxie, become a responsible adult and impress those around him with desire & work ethic.
Why is everyone else always to blame for his failures, the people who drafted him gain no enjoyment in watching him fail - MB do any want to look like the moron he does for drafting him & proclaiming him their future 1C.
Why can't Galchenyuk earn his TOI by hard work & merit like Lekhonen has? Maybe he should spend less time snorting lines at Flygin and spend more time watching videos, being the last off the ice during practice & dedicating himself 24/7 - 365 to his profession?

I don't think he's a buffoon (although he dresses like one), but I get the feeling that he sees himself as much smarter than everyone else, and he is always right, even when he's wrong. Today's presser proved it when he seemed to blame the players....well, cannot blame the players when you give Max a center like DD, Dano, Pleks...and let your coach play Chuckie on the 3rd-4th line in a must-win game

Have you seen his off-season workouts?

The guy is getting a bad rep. He was on pace for 70 points before he got hurt. It was bad luck. THAT'S IT. Put him with talent like Radulov and he will be more than fine. No need for false narratives and fake news.

Re: Marc Bergevin: Post Mortem today 16h00

It's not human nature to publicly blame yourself. But I'm sure he knows after this series what we need. Whether he acquires it is another story.

Re: Marc Bergevin: Post Mortem today 16h00

I am willing to give Julien a pass for his Chuckie treatment, because he inherited this mess.

Not only that, but at some point last year, most of our centers were injured, and they preferred JDL at center rather than Chuckie. Molson should have fired both foxhole buddies the next morning.

Ron Wilson, Randy Carlyle, and Peter Horachek nearly screwed up a top 10 pick, a centre in Kadri.

Mike Babcock fixed it.

If Julien wants to be an elite coach, he needs to fix Chucky. He's got the skill and he's not too old to be fixed.

Gonna stop you there...Arturi went like 20+ games without a goal, but still played..............Chukie goes 2 games without a goal, and then gets 4th line treatment.

Chuckie is not a support player like Arturi.....he's a top line guy, 30-goal scorer....you gotta play these guys top minutes ALL THE TIME for them to develop. Arturi can develop playing 3rd line minutes...

Chuckie is like any other sniper......you gotta play him often, and keep playing him until he learns.

MTL started him on the wing his first 2 years, then gave him center position, but switched him to wing the moment he had a down. He finished strong and scored 30 goals last season, but then again we didn't keep him at center this year.

The blame is massively on the Habs' side......don't you think Chuckie wants to play and succeed....what effort should he put in when he's being asked to be a center, then winger, then scrub on 4th line.....in practices, they often didn't include him in the faceoff drills....and he won't improve faceoffs unless he gets lots of them during real games, not practices.

When you have a kid like Chuckie, you give him space and allow him to develop.....you don't restrict him. This isn't 1970's hockey anymore....

Find a suitor for Shaw/Pleks. Might be easier to convince Vegas to take Shaw and trade pleks to New Jersey as Part of the package for Kovy

Not an overly physical line up. But offence shouldn't be an issue lol. Think it's possible??

he's a pretty bad hockey guy if it took him 5 years to see this.......everyone in Quebec could have told him we weren't gonna win unless Price pitched no-hitters 16 times in the playoffs

Re: Marc Bergevin: Post Mortem today 16h00

Yes Kadri would have such a season with the old squad of Leafs and without the injection of 7 talented rookies. Having Matthews, Nylander, Marner and the rest doesn't help at all of course.

First on the ice and Last off the ice at practice? You mean like he is in nearly every practice. He is always one of the guys staying later. I don't know where this comment from Sal is coming from.

Nor do I know where this "snorting lines at Flygin" is coming from? Sal doesn't live in Montreal so he didn't see it himself, I'm not seeing any reputable journalist report it. What are we doing, repeating some rumor monger on twitter or what?

He tried to get Draisitle last June. He knows what we need. He's just failed in getting it.

What line played the hardest minutes on the Leafs? Kadri.

The other guys weren't insulating him, he was insulating them...

Who was matched against Backstrom/Ovechkin in the playoffs? Who was matched against Crosby, against McDavid, against the top line for every team in the league? Kadri's line.
