NCFC MLS bid/General Soccer Bizzo

Top Spanish league La Liga is playing a regular season game in the US this season. But they don't know which teams are playing or when or the location. Assume it will be in the spring rather than in cold weather unless they play in a warm weather location.

Expect a steady diet of Barcelona, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid, since they’re the only clubs in the league that matter. Neither El Clasico or the Madrid Derby will be played here, and I bet you won’t see the stirring battle between Espanyol and Real Betis either. It’s probably going to be in Miami because the owner of Relevent also owns Hard Rock Stadium. And the players in La Liga are considering a lawsuit against the league because they weren’t consulted.

And not to beat a dead horse, but this is being discussed on the Soccer board. :couch

NFL is up to 3 regular season games a year in London and there is talk they might eventually have a "virtual" team there by playing 8 games a year there.

Tottenham Hotspur’s new stadium won’t open on time so all 3 NFL games will be played at Wembley. The Seattle/Oakland game on October 14 was to have been played there during the FIFA international break.

I think having 8 NFL games in London with various teams is a much better idea than forcing one team to be so far off in the time zones. With 8 games the fans would get to see 1/2 the league each year. and in 2 years every team would play there once.

The lawsuit filed by the Ohio AG and city of Columbus to keep the Crew from moving has a motion to dismiss hearing this afternoon. If Precourt and MLS prevail, it's probably over, this is really their last opportunity to prevent the team from relocating to Austin. Michael McCann, Sports Illustrated's legal eagle, had a good article about the merits of both cases. He's a good follow on Twitter too.

The courage are supposed to start the playoffs on Sunday at home so that game could be delayed by the storm.

They’ll probably have to move the game. The question is where. Charlotte or Asheville might be safe and it will still give fans who can get out of their neighborhoods a decent chance of getting there.

BTW, UNC Wilmington just issued a mandatory evacuation for all students effective 8 am tomorrow. They’re coordinating with UNC Asheville for students who can’t get home.

Curious since there's no available student housing at UNC-A. They just opened new dorms and they're already over-booked ... but whatever.

I guess cots in the gym. They’re probably the campus least likely to be affected by Florence.

Sure ... Asheville and Western look like the only two that can count on minimal impact. And App I guess, but Boone is already bursting at the seams with school in session on any average day.
