Looking increasingly like the Ontario PC’s support of the high-speed rail project was contingent on the Feds letting Doug Ford fuck over the residents of Toronto once again with the Billy Bishop airport expansion.

Ford's support is not required for the project to move ahead. The project has been legally structured specifically to avoid giving either province the ability to shut it down, and opposition to it just freezes them out of active consultation to get their wish lists included.

Most importantly here is that the Ottawa-Montreal portion is set to break ground in 2029 and Ford will be into his last year as Premier by the time that rolls around. The most he can do is bitch and moan about it, but given that the line connects two cities that vote Liberal historically, and goes through rural land that already is organized against the project and reliably votes Conservative, he was already going to an about face on ALTO in 2028-29 just due to the political realities of the project.

So basically, fuck him & fuck his donor buddies.
