New Canadian Politics Thread

Not loving that the worldwide consensus that seems to be evolving is that the best approach to Trump’s tarriffs is to just bend over and take it, while saying thank you. And that we’re joining in on that.
It's not great. But also maybe just an acceptance that "negotiation" and "deals" with Trump are completely pointless. Best just to do what's best financially for your citizens and let US cripple itself.

A key takeaway from all of this so far is that you just have to not care about how the US spins anything and just handle your situation the best you can at the time to support your economy. Even if Trump doesn't "win" a negotiation, he'll either lie or have a dementia moment about you giving him 100's of billions of dollars (he did a similar thing with taiwanese chip manufacturers, Apple, and the nation of Japan) and he gets his tires pumped in a short media cycle over it. Best to just ignore it. If you're living in the moment to moment reality he's crafting out of whole cloth, you're losing.

And what was his response?

As long as y'all remember you're dealing with a mean, mercurial, physically ill, not bright old man (with a stupid-ass, dangerous base), you can still buy time. Some "diplomatic" flattery will help, too.
